Truly amazing color with the macro Rolf , I found this thread when researching a lens i just brought. its brand new still in the plastic it came from the factory, a 350/4.8 was not sure what to do with it but after seeing what sebboh has done with this lens page 19 yellow bird , Great shot . it looks like it worth keeping seeing the results on this thread.
There are some very talented photographers here which use the equipment to its full potential as shown in the above photo . Well done all, I hope to post a few pics when i get a adapter ,l Cheers Frank

It's very rare to see a new-in-box 350/4.8 lens. I am sure you will use it well.
7 years ago, it was about $800 on eBay, and now I regret having missed the final bid.
It is rare,I was very fortunate to find it , that's why i am wondering if i should try to sell it to a collector and put the money to a 280/4 after looking through this post, not that a lens like that would make us a better photographers , the pics by Telyt are just amazingly clear and detailed seems that the lens to kook out for.

by all accounts the 280 apo is a better lens all round, so if you can trade up i would think it would be worth it.

I agree with that. However, it also depends on how much a NIB 350/4.8 would be. The 280/4 APO is very expensive (and rare!), I guess it will be double the price of a NIB 350/4.8.
WOW!! i have had a look at some 280/4 , $5000 + that's more than all the R lens i have together I have a 60/2.8 90/2 100/2.8 APO 180/2.8 v2 250/4 v2 350/4.8 the total cost was much less than the 280 /4 by it self , I may have to sell off some of my other gear first and keep an eye out for one at a reasonable price. so far been fortunate with the prices . I dont think some one would give me $2500+ for the 350 /4.8 but you never know till you try , Cheers Frank
$5000 for 280/4 APO seems quite steep. I saw them selling for $3500 on a couple of occasions last year. It's a trendy lens right now, but I think the 180/2.8 APO is equally amazing and in a smaller size.
rdst: very nice work!

Don't have the exact spec dimensions but the 2.8 weighs in at 2.75 kgs/6.06 lbs while the Telyt is 1.875 kgs/4.1 lbs. I have used the Telyt hand-held, doubtful the same can be said for the 2.8. I could be wrong.

Sorry, I meant the 180/2.8 APO which weighs just 2 pounds. The last version (11375) can be used with 1.4 APO extender which makes it 280/4 if needed.
The 280/2.8 APO is a beast indeed, and I don't think it's quite on par with 280/4 and 180/2.8 in IQ.

I've used the 280mm f/2.8 APO, and I currently have the 280mm f/4 APO, 180mm f/2.8 APO and 1.4x APO extender. As good as the f/2.8 lenses are, the 280mm f/4 APO runs circles around them. Put the 2x APO extender on the 280mm f/4 and the other lenses stand a chance.

Well, I am gonna to get mine for 3 grands next week. Will post some photos here.
Thats is a reasonable price for a 280 /4 considering what it can do and the popularity if them.
Europe and America & Asia have a a greater chance to get any lenses at good prices most of the lenses that i have purchased have been from over seas so chance is slim to get one local

Its not the 280 reach that wanted, its the ability to have 280-560 and not loose image quality and its lighter than the 280/2.8 which is a great option when traveling .

Any time I see results with my APO 180/2.8 I keep thinking "it can't get any better" I guess it can!

I'm looking for a backup 280/4. Any leads appreciated.
It took me years to find a good one, but I will keep an eye on it for you.
I can't believe I purchased 105-280 and 280/4 in one month! I wouldn't dare to tell my wife about it.
As you mentioned, it really is financial ruin.
