Beautiful photo Thomas. Yes, my friends were asking if I increased saturation in post processing!

Then I feel that I am headed towards a Summicron R 35mm as my 35mm of choice for my NEX. Any negative opinions?

Philippe, I had one and was not completely happy. I felt that it was a bit soft in the corners wide open, and not that interesting in the rendering in general. Good lens but not great. I know others who don't agree though, and this was admittedly quite a while back, when I had a Canon 5D which I didn't like that much, so I could be mistaken.

Have you considered the voigtlander 40/2 SLII Ultron?
Just a tad longer focal length, pancake size, very nice rendering, colour and contrast.

inglis -- I would say my Leica R 60 Macro is similar to Canon coloration, which is generally warmer/mellower color than my Zeiss lenses. It matches well with my other lenses, including my 100L Macro -- Philip, I don't know how this Canon lens could be considered lifeless or sterile, or were your comments regarding the non-L version(s)? -- I find it very appealing. I am very pleased also with the 60 Macro, and consider it one of my best lenses for color and sharpness on my Canon bodies.

Here are two relatively low saturation 100L RAW test shots from earlier today on a new 1D2 body. Both are at f/5.6 at ISO 200. The red bowl shot has only LR3 defaults with no color or saturation enhancing, and the chairs shot has LR3 defaults with sharpening only and no color or saturation changes. Neither has had change in exposure. I find them both to be quite accurate and lively in their coloration, even though they feature seemingly bland neutral areas. I wish I had shot some comparison shots with the R 60 Macro!

The one I owned was the non macro, Gunzorro, and I sold it for a 100mp. As I wrote, I briefly tried the IS one, which had much better colours, but not good enough for me to dump the 100mp.

More than striking

Yes, handheld. I don't carry a tripod or a monostat around with me, as much sense as it might make. The stuff I have with me is heavy enough.

Brilliant portrait, Thomas!
Love your set, philip, with the second being a show-stopper IMHO!

I have the Summicron R 35 as well as the Elmarit R 35, both are the latest versions (but no ROM). On the Nex-5 the Summicron R is great at 2.0, better corners than the Summicron M 1st version (if this would mean something for you.) At 2.8, the Summicron R is better at center and corner compared to the Elmarit R. From 4.0 on they are indistinguishable.

I have just received the Nex-5N and my preliminary tests show that the Biogon 25 performs far better around the edges than it was doing on the Nex-5, so I can easily state that the Summicron R 35 (or the Elmarit R 35) could be excellent choices for the APS-C size sensors.

Hope these help.

Bob

Thanks, Bob! I would be very interested to know how well the ZM 25 performs on NEX 5N. It should be fine, because it is a great lens and because even ZM 18 has no corner issues, but confirmation would be most welcome! And congrats on your new camera!

Philipe -- Ah! The non-macro, EF 100/2. I've always heard good things about that lens too. I'm glad you got the 100MP that pleases you so much!
