What is the MFD of the 90/2 R Summicron?
I am somewhat dismayed at the MFD of my 50/2 R Summicron.
I am currently enjoying, and being spoiled by my Zeiss C/Y 35/1.4.
Maybe I should consider the Leica 60/2.8 R Macro-Elmarit next?
I only have one Leica lens so far, the 50/2 R Summicron.
I like it, I just wished it was able to focus closer...
Oh, I use a 5DMkII, BTW.
Hmm, I haven't tried any of my MF lenses on the 40D, as of yet, there's a thought...

A decent solution for closer focus of your 50 Summicron is to get an Elpro 1 and or an Elpro 2 close up lens. The Elpro 1 will get you a working distance of between 21 and 41 cm and an Elpro 2 will get you a working distance of between 21 and 14 cm, which will give you a magnification of 1 to 2.6. I am a big fan of the Leica Elpro close-up lenses, very little if any loss in optical performance and no light loss either. They are a nice way to get closer focus with the 50 and 90 summicrons and the 90 elmarit.

The ELPRO 1 and 2 are for the E55 version of the 50mm Summicron-R. IDK if they also have thread for the older versions (Series VI filter). Older lenses (using Series VI filters) can use ELPRO VIa and VIb.
There are also ELPRO lenses for the 90mm Summicron-R, 90mm Elmarit-R and 135mm Elmarit-R. The later version (E55) ELPRO 3 and 4 lenses can also be used on 80-200mm f/4.5 and 75-200mm f/4.5 zooms, and the 180mm f/4 Elmar-R.
Thanks for all the information.
I had forgotten about the close up lenses.

Does the ELPRO fit the 90 AA as well ?
The ELPRO for the 100 APO has E60 filter threads but the rear element of the ELPRO would collide with the front element of the lens HOWEVER, the 100's ELPRO comes with an E60 hood... if you put the hood between the lens and the ELPRO it will probably have enough space between the ELPRO and the lens' front element.
The bad newses are:
the 100 APO's ELPRO is not inexpensive
the 100 APO's ELPRO has a big enough diameter for an f/2.8 lens, not an f/2 lens
