I've been looking for a Leica Elmarit-R 19mm V1 or V2 for quite some time but it seems that the price for these lenses have just gone through the roof to the point where I'm just as good getting either a new Canon with an adapter and using "M" lenses, or moving over to Sony and using an adapter to use "M" lenses. I'm not sure which is better for "M" lenses, but I already have several Canon EF cameras and lenses so I'd rather stay with Canon.
Are there any other stellar wide angle lenses that would fit onto a Canon 5DSR camera, particularly the Leica-R class of lenses? I already have a Leica Elmarit-R 28mm V2 and a Zeiss 25mm for Canon EF lens, as well as their 21mm for EF cameras, which hasn't been as good as the 25mm.
What about any of the wide angle Sigma Art lenses? I have a Sigma 12-24mm F/4 Art lens, but it's so incredibly heavy and cumbersome and the photos have some heavy distortion. Any primes that really give Leica a run for its money (since they make lenses for Leica)? Any other lenses?

I have been using the Elmarit-R 19/2.8 V2 for many years now and I really like the IQ from that lens. deep rich Leica color without excessive amount of micro-contrast - images have very relaxed feels to my eyes. But I think the new Zeiss Milvus 18/2.8 ZE lens may be a better lens for your Canon 5DSR - beautiful rendering of color and sharpness with 3D pop. I would highly recommend that you give that lens a good look.
Thanks - I really like Zeiss lenses also. I have far more Zeiss lenses than Leica, but that's probably because of the costs. There are also some amazing older Zeiss lenses that were around the time of the Leica-R lenses that are very impressive like the 50mm F/1.7. I have a couple of photos I took in Glacier National Park during the fall foliage season, one with the Zeiss 50mm F/1.7 and one with a Leica Elmarit-R 28mm F/2.8 E-55 and when you reduce the 28mm to the area of the 50mm, they look identical in color, sharpness, and depth.
I'll check into the Zeiss Milvus. Thanks again.

Beautiful melt-away bokeh. Can see why videographers have swept up this lens.
Is that why its price on the Bay has gone up to insane levels lately? I was searching for R glass the other day and my jaw dropped at the number of US$10k+ listings for the R35/1.4. Ditto for the R19/2.8, including the v1 which is notably worse and absolutely not worth it even for collecting...

Did this thread disappear for awhile? I searched for it several times and could not find it.
Once a thread falls off the 'active' list, it won't show up in any searches, until you set the search-year to the year the thread was started. In this case, 2005. It's the link called "Time Machine". It's a pain.
Maybe, a google search of the FM site would work better.

It is relatively rare although with 6,492 known serial numbers also not that rare...
Some of the R-glass is very popular with videographers. Prices for the Vario-Elmarit-R 35-70mm/ f/2.8 also tend to be insane...

Wow. That is a great mechanism to hide content that people might want to see.
