Here is shot of my son at his piano recital from yesterday shot with the Leica R 80 f/1.4 on the Fuji GFX 50s, super shallow DOF on this camera (it has the angle of view and depth of field of a 58 f/1.0 lens on FF 35mm) but still the lovely 80 summilux rendering.
Leitz Apo Macro Elmarit R 100/2.8 - the lens worth a tail.....
This lens is still new to me and I try to get to know it in deep. I would like to squeeze the best out of it. And I can easily see that the lens has lots of the very best qualities inside.
Let's make one remark - from several thousands of very different lenses I took photos over the last 30 years, this one has the most beautiful colour and tonal rendition. At least to my eyes, despite lighting conditions. :-)
Yet I still can not show this in my pictures in a satisfactory way ...arrrgh...!It seemd so simple at the first glance :-(
But I do not lose hope that it will happen soon. This great, unique and magical optical tool deserves it. :-)
Jako - from your pictures I can see, that it is high time for me to acquire the Summilux R 80/1.4.I watch the ebay offers regularly ,yet there was not any reasonable offer in the EU over the last 2 months.I keep on looking.

I agree Peire, the Summilux-R 80/1.4 is a terrific lens, especially wide open for portraits.
It sharpens up across the image at f/4.
Quite useable for landscape shots at f/5.6 or f/8 I find.
Prone to substantial flare against strong light sources.
I got my copy a few years ago. It’s definitely a keeper.
Just curious, what’s the going rate for the lens these days? TIA.
Thank you gents!
Indeed, Lux-R 80 is a very unique lens and many comments were written about this Mandler's fave on this forum. This lens changes its character as you need it. Wide open, against bright background it produces soft images without losing much details, so ideal for portraiture. Stopped down to f/5.6 - f/8 and it's sharp as a tack with great, vibrant colours. I hunted down my immaculate copy about 6 years ago, and it's definitely a keeper.

I look out for Summilux R 80/1.4,but the asking prices are rather insane.I would not give 2300 Euro for ANY lens.I hope that with a little bit of patience it is possible to find a good copy in exc condition for up to 1800 Euro.

Thanks Peire. I wish you good luck with that.

I found mine for a little less than that, $1,750 USD, so with patience you should be able to get one at that price. I would love to see what the lens does in your very capable hands.
yes, in your hands a 28 is very powerfull. your photos from the Semana Santa are amazing!

It's a magic lens, very good in all fields, I can't do without it, it's my favourite focal length.. She's got brain for me, when I put my eye in the viewfinder, photographic composition becomes obvious...
Hi hanay78,
you are very kind. Very pleased if you are pleased with my pics: I like sharing for what I feel...
For the last picture of the arum, my wife asked me to make a picture of the flower although it comes from our garden and as I found the flower nicer than the picture...
But she loves the picture more than the real flower..
The Leica Macro-Elmarit-R 60/2.8 is very special, a perfect conception of a sweet lens: I dare to say "voluptuous".
thank you again for your warmth.

The Summilux-R 80 f1.4 gets my vote as the best portrait lens ever (at least that I have seen or used).
Even on this shot at f3.5, you can still make out traces of the famous Leica glow.

Nice picture. Unfortunately, I sold mine 20 years ago but I can't afford it any more...
