That is a remarkable price, but I guess the price has been dropping. I paid about $4700 for mine in December of 2013. Mine was in mint or mint- condition with box and case. Focus is still extemely smooth.

price cant drop i think.as only 2000 lens made. but r280/4 many selling to fund 90-280sl, but af lenses prices are dropping , manual extraordinary lens keep or rise price.anyway r280/4 better performer vs SL zoom and im bought as can use r 1.4 and r 2x apo extenders and stopped see at sl90-280. p.s. im
bought r280/4 in 2013 for 4000$ and sold for same price after half year. but now time return baby to home again also summer good time to buy- bought r apo1.4x for 220€ and apo ROM 2x for 350€ .... lucky summer for me
