Well, I may be quick warmer, beacuse the M Elmarit 24mm struck me as very good in the time it took to shoot half a dozen shots... And the price difference between the two versions seems to be huge, sort of one to four...

The 24/3.4M *is* very good, but you were saying that it had a colour cast? I don't know what you mean with a price difference of 1:4. What are the prices you have seen?

Really, at these prices, using them on a 1.5x crop sensor makes no sense to me, but then, you would have to carry a FF camera. Are you sure you don't want an M9?

The M9 doesn't appeal (yet). Though, spending time with Luka in Norway showed that the M9 in good hands delivers superb results. But I just love the small size of my NEX, and came up with the idea that a Leica R could fit both it and my 5D II, which would be great.

But using them on a 1.33x crop does? Come on Carsten, are you sure you don't want an M9?

I *do* want an M9, but I don't want to drop 5 Kiloeuro on a camera right now. Or soon. Some day...

Btw, I have nothing wider than the 28 Cron at the moment, apart from a CV15 which I don't use much.

Btw, I just bought the 50MP, my first new ZF.2 lens. I am so excited

That is a nice idea, but NEX + 5DII + Leica R lenses are much bigger than M9 + M lenses.

the R lenses are rather large. i might try the leica m 28mm and 35mm lenses first to see if they show any color shift. on the other hand, if your looking to replace your ZE 28mm the leica R is probably one of the few lenses that will be a step up.

Pebbleplace puts the newest 28/2.8 R as iffy with 5d2 mirror clearance.

Interesting that the microlens convolusion is the source of the cast. I wonder how much of the sub par performance of Canonikon lenses at the wide end can be attributed to similar issues.

i'm guessing not much, wide angle are just hard to design, but i could be wrong. having all the lenses designed to allow room for the mirror means the angle of incidence cannot vary near as much for slr lenses as it does for rangefinder lenses. slr sensors don't have near as aggressively offset microlenses as the m9 because they don't need to.

You should look at this thread:

https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/874504/0?keyword=Leica,28#8205769

Basically a non-Rom version should not cause problems. Some of the Rom versions cause problems and other do not and it depends on the 5D/5D MKII, but even the ones that cause problems can be fixed by simply removing the shroud. Or so it seems. Of course as always YMMV.

ROM was an option, so you could have exactly the same lens with and without ROM. Thus I don't think it is possible to generalize like that. John Black keeps a list of lenses which hit the mirror (or not) at pebbleplace.

Indeed, Carsten, indeed. But nobody "says" that I "need" to take both cams with me at the same time every time. There are many days when I just go out with my NEX+ZM in one coat pocket and another ZM in another. A Leica R 28mm would be an extra step in what I could get out of the system Vs what I am willing to show...

True.

Awake late? I was just taking care of my daughter who woke up. I need to go back to bed.

The latest 50 Summilux-R (f/1.4) is top notch, but also very expensive. It approaches, but does not reach, the 50 Summilux-M ASPH.

This is what E.Puts says about the Summilux 50 1.4 E60:

"The new 1,4/50 Summilux-R defines the current state of the art of large aperture standard lenses. It outclasses the previous version of the 1.4/50 Summilux-R by a clear distance. It edges ahead of the current Summicon-R and improves upon the current Summilux-M 1.4/50. Nonscientific comparison pictures with the Summicron-M show comparable performance in most picture taking situations however. The current Summicron-M is still the high speed standard llens to beat."

Thanks, guys. Your twin recommendation wins the day, I will get myself a Leica R 28mm. Presently E-Bay offers many of them, but not with the built-in hood. How much better are they? That will work out as 42mm on my NEX, a focal length I will get a lot of use from, and a 28mm on my 5DII, which will replace the ZE I planned to sell anyhow...

Make sure you get the: 28mm f/2.8 Elmarit-R II with the serial number starting at 3664831.

Older serial number lenses will hit the mirror on DSLR.

Here are four portraits of interesting looking people I took during a recent short stay in Istanbul with the Summilux 50mm (E60). It's really not easy to hit the right focus, but when you do it, the pictures are pretty remarkable - at least that's what I think.
The picture with the woman and the gun was considerably de-saturated, as the colours simply looked silly. All of them @ f 2 ISO 320

And last but not least, here is a picture of the great Ara Güler in his Cafe Güler on Istiklal Boulevard (same lense):
