I was just able to purchase an APO-ELMARIT 180/2.8 with S/N 389xxxx at a good price. Below an image of the aperture of this lens at f/8. Looks good to me! Many thanks again for all your help!
Edit: I have the whole series from f/4 through f/11. They all look good. Die, Ninja!
Best,
Ron
I just looked up my lens sitting on my lap and it is with a S/N 389xxxx.
This is a version 1 serial number.
I also have another APO 180/2.8 which is version 2 but it is in my other house location.
I double checked E.Putts numbers and they list the S/N389xxxx as 1st version as well which is exactly like the one I have.
To cut a long story short, you should have clearly a Ninja aperture and I appreciate you trust your seller but he might have erred on the left side.
According to my modest powers of observations, the shot claimed at f4 is an f5.6 and the shot claimed at f11 is an f16.
The wall thickness between the glass and the body seems to be thicker than it should be.
Of course, I might be wrong and I hope I am wrong.
I think we better keep the jury out until you get the lens and do your own tests and publish here.
Almass, i think in this case this is not matter... Another man posted shot of lens with very close s/n and that's was full "ninja" nirvana from Leica style. I'm very soon recieve the 180 with 379.... and I'm ready! My soul already opening for any reality
Alex, your samples along with Paul's do reminder my 50lux ASPH M, which I feel sometimes, bokeh is a little bit (too) smooth. It could be just distance ratio. but it is kind of new to me. I will look for it further with more samples.
Michael, I'm never use the m-system... seems that R-lenses enough for me from Leica I'm really understand you now... a 1-2-3 years ago when i first time meets with all lenses in the range 35-90 step by step i was in the incredible condition. Now - less...

Thanks for share.
My feeling is the 50 Lux ASPH-M is a bit smoother, more gaussian neutral. These R50E60 images remind me of some 50 Lux-M pre-ASPH images in terms of background rendering. The blur discs have a bit more edge to them. There is a bit more shape and roundness to out of focus objects, like the out of focus photographer behind the painter, than I would expect with the ASPH-M. I also see this in the skyline of Paul's images on the previous page. But you could also be right that it's a matter of camera/subject/background distance ratios... In any case, it looks to be a fabulous lens.
