Yeah, I think the Point of Focus is placed on the Blue Bunny label (just in front of where I wanted it to be, the ice cream on the spoon). Even with the precision screen and split prism its a bit hard to focus at MFD with my Rebel XT. With that said, I love how the colors were rendered and the rendition of the OoF area, so thought it was worth the post.
Here are a few from my new C/Y 180 2.8. It's quite heavy, but it's the MM version and has a floating element for good quality at MFD. I only paid $300 for a mint copy, I know some have said it's nothing special but I like it so far. Can't wait to get it in the studio with the 5D and some lighting...
Has that trademark Zeiss look to the skin... almost too sharp for people. Wide Open
Also Wide open. Good separation.
Wide open. Does a good job with the background I think.
Just a test to see front and back bokeh with a difficult subject. Not bad...
Thank you, Jason, for a nice test, especially the emphasis on bokeh. I agree that the S180 looks better than its rep. Interesting that the "bad" bokeh is in front, which is very unusual for CZ C/Y: of my dozen lenses, only the SP100 (bellows macro) has that property.
It was really grey light due to bad weather today. I will try to get some shots with this lens tomorrow when the weather is clear. This lens is going to be great for candid people shots. It will really do a great job separating them from the background. There is a very clear break between areas of extreme sharpness and oof areas. I must say that this copy is MUCH better than the AE version my friend owns. It also looks different, the AE has the hood inside like on the 135 and the MM has the hood on the outside. I wonder if there was an optical update between releases? In any event I think at least the MM version may be one of the better 180mm ALT lenses under $500...
