Wilhelm, FM search does not work. To search for something, go to Google and type something like:

FM search does work if you know how to operate it. Google search isn't perfect either for searching on FM.
@wfrank: MM Germany. You know about the AE and MM versions? There are AE and MM lenses made in Germany and Japan, so AEG/AEJ/MMG/MMJ are used to indicate this (not by Zeiss themselves, they just use AE and MM to indicate the type).
Aham, no I dont I'm afraid. Is there a significant difference between the four? I do not know which version I am offered - can you tell by some marking somewhere?
I'm surprised that the page doesn't explain this, but MM stands for Multi Mode, meaning that the camera can set the aperture on its own when the camera is in shutter speed priority mode. AE lenses don't support this because they don't have the MM tab that communicates the biggest aperture to the camera. This is only relevant when using the lenses on Contax and Yashica camera bodies though.
A couple of the MM lenses were optically improved over the AE versions. I believe the only ones confirmed by Zeiss to have these improvements were the 25/2.8, 28/2.8 and 135/2.8. There are rumours that the 85/1.4 MMG is the best performing version; no idea if it's true. I think that the AE version was slightly less sharp than the MM and ZE in a comparison. Edit: found the one I remembered: https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1009161/39#9952859 (some more comments about the lens further up on that page too)

For a lens to support MultiMode, its stop-down lever must move proportionally to the taking aperture. After the 159MM was released in 1985, CZ lenses with this property were considered MM (green aperture marking, MM tab on the mount). This tab is detected by a switch at 4 o'clock on MM camera mounts, and you can hold this switch with your fingernail to get instant MM capability from your AE lenses. Meanwhile, biggest aperture of a mounted lens is sensed by a moving lever at 12 o'clock on any Contax body (MM or not): this is necessary to perform open-aperture metering.
Thanks! The Contax is the C/Y, so I use a rainbow imaging adapter. Quite generic. a little play, but not too bad. I use with the 50/1.7 planar as well.
First image post ever! But after looking at 40 pages of this thread, i have picked up a 50mm f1.4 and loving it! Now i want to buy an 85 1.4 and 135 2.8
Glad to see you enjoying the 35-70 Dale! Really starting to miss it, even when I don't have a camera to shoot with right now... I can see myself picking up another one.
How do you find the handling on Nex 5N?

Love the shot of the tree trunk! I love my 50/1.4 too but haven't had much opportunities to use it yet.
