If this lens weren't as _huge_ as it is, I would be all over it ..
Shot at Fotovideo?
This is probably my next pickup, just hope I can get one before I head for Thailand in April.
Even though it's fairly big, my plan is to bring this and the 85G with me, packing light.
Usually when traveling I tend to pack waaay too much stuff, fearing to miss something.
But I usually end up using the 85mm most of the time.
The only thing holding me back at the moment is the cash, payday can't come fast enough

Fotovideo indeed. I think I would love travelling with this and the sigma 85 1.4 as a duo-kit. But the size is a bit prohibitive. I'm anxiously waiting for the rumored professional EVIL from nikon myself. A M9-sized nikkor with a couple of tiny slow lenses and one semi-big fast one would be perfect for me. (Think a CV 21/4 (m-mount), OM 50/1.2 and canon 105/3.5 (rangefinder mount) on a small body).
I agree that the combination I plan on taking, gripped D700, 24 & 85, isn't exactly considered small. But I'm willing to carry it with me based on the quality of shots I'll be able to get.
I'll most likely bring a film body too, my lovely Canon 7 with the 50mm f/0.95
The rumored EVIL could be nice if they implemented the sensor from the D7K or the same size, DX at least.

Wayne, out of curiosity, why use an adapted 24G on a Canon body when you can use the 24L II? Does the 24G have that much of an edge optically?
Well, last year when this lens was released I looked at a lot of pictures on the web of the 24L II and the 24G and I seemed to prefer the colors, contrast and wide open performance of the 24G. I rented the lens for a trip to Vegas and fell in love with the lens how clear and sharp the lens was wide open and how well it rendered dimly lit scenes handheld. I later bought the lens and have no regrets. I prefer the manual focus ring of Nikon lenses over most Canon lenses and since I have a lot of manual focus Zeiss and Leica primes, I am used to working with only manual focus and I don't really need AF. I also have had the 14-24G for a few years now and of course prefered that lens to my 16-35mk1 and started my alt lens journey/addiction.

Hmm. Have you thought about a Nikon body?
Yes, but I have had the 1ds3 well before there was a D3,D3x and D700 and it has been great. Been waiting awhile now for its replacement but Canon has faltered.
I will see what happens next. I have a lot of alt lenses which only work on Canon mount.
As you know Ryan, this lens is great for night-time hand-held type shooting.
It's my favorite fast lens for this type of shooting. Took this lens, rokkor 58/1.2, rokinon 85/1.4 and zeiss 35/2.
I used the 24G the most on the trip.
Hey Wayne, how'd did you like carrying around the sMk3 at the park? A little too much weight or...? I'm heading there tomorrow for my girls first time and trying to decide if I want to just bring the P&S and leave the DSLR.

I lugged my 1ds3 and d3x around the park for three days. Different trips. The Canon had the 85L mounted the entire time and the d3x had the 85D. Was not a problem. this year i will bring the 85 and 24.

It was ok since we were staying at paradise pier hotel and could leave camera there for parts of the day when we wanted to ride the coaster.
DSLR is much better for the night shooting with fast lenses.
Quite a few people were carrying DSLRs in the park.
Have a great trip!
