Using LiveView and the magnification, Manual Focus is a breeze ... I successfully got some shots where a bird was sitting behind some twigs and the AF would keep focusing on the twig. Switched to MF, used LiveView, magnified and then focused. Got really good results, considering the number of twigs between the camera and the subject. But, you're right .. the 7D's VF is not great for MF.
If you used a credit card, or PayPal to purchase it, just file a complaint, and show them your proof of return. It might take a few weeks, but you will get a refund.
