Thanks DJ. I'll have to do some digging. $150 sounds ideal. I have extension tubes so maybe that would get me close to 1/1. When I had Canon I had the Sigma 150 macro and it was great. I just thought if I could get an older nikon for less I'd go for it. I generally used manual focus anyway when doing macro.
It looks like I've got some research to do. Thanks
I've had both 85/1.8 and the 85/2 and was pleased with both...I needed $$$ so sold the F2 and then found a 1.8 for $100 less than the sold F2...just the opposite of what you'd expect...because the 1.8 is real beater (to the body) and the lens is full of "gunk"....but it still takes nice shots...
I've had most versions of the 50/1.4 and all are "hazy" wide open (as was the 50/1.2 and 58/1.4 I had)...but the AIS 1.4 is nice and crisp at F2...
I had the PdotC version and the ED version of the 180mm/2.8 and while they both take excellent pix, the ED version is a bit lighter and more compact, making for steadier hand-holding
....my 300mm/4.5-H shows none of the CA it's supposed to have, which is why many go with the ED version...but I guess I got a good one...
...my 200/4-Q (pre-AI, 7' MFD version), is just great too...though the AI version is more compact.
Another vote for the 105mm 2.5 AIS. I have two of them; the second one was to replace the one I have had since 1984!
My two favorite AIS wide angles are the 24mm 2.8 and (despite what others may say about it) the 35mm 2.0.
Last year I purchased a new Nikon 24mm 2.8 AF-D and compared it to my old 24mm 2.8 AIS. My AIS was much sharper and worked much better with the metering system of my D200 than the AF version. I ended up returning the AF version. I probably received a bad copy, but I decided to hold off on getting another AF for a while.
My 75-150 just arrived from KEH. I went for a quick walk to determine what kind of bokeh I bought and whether I could focus it on my D200. Answers below.
My only previous experience with a MF lens on my D200 was a 50 1.2 AIS I rented for a week just recently. I'd like one of those too, but the price on this little zoom was a lot more palatable.
EDIT: anyone want to buy a lightly used 80-200 AF-D?
