The 100% jpgs of the other two shots are in the same inbox - at 100% you can see there's about a pixel of motion blur, but you can still read the labels on the black cord. Impressive performance.
Its got a pixel of purple CA on black/white transitions but that's not an issue. I'll try to get some real world shots when it stops raining.
Very, very interesting Roger ... thanks for sharing ... and looking forward to more testing if you have the time - this could be a killer lens when coupled with the 7D in terms of pixels on targets.
I have a trip to Africa in a couple of months, and lens possibilities I'm debating are 70-200/2.8IS2 (with 2x), 100-400, or the Sigma 50-500OS. Big whites are out of my budget ... and option #1 is stretching it already! ;-)
BTW, how the heck did you get this so early?
Thanks,
alek
P.S. Recently watched a few of your videos comparing telephoto lens sizes ... plus your "lens reliability" data is quite interesting - great job!
Nice--OS seems to work quite well. How does it perform in other areas (i.e. AF/IQ). One other question, does it have an actual 500mm FL or is it more like 450 like the non-OS version?
Wonderful news, thanks so much for sharing. I own one Canon and one Nikon mount of the non-OS Bigma; praying that the new version kept or improved on the old optics which were terrific. I am going to replace the Canon first and order one tomorrow. Happy happy.
On another note autofocus seems reasonably quick -- but that was just shifting from near to far focus points. No birds in flight available.
Thanks a lot for all the information. If you do happen to have the lens at hand when birds are around, I'm sure at least a few of us would be interested to hear your thoughts on its AF performance!
A friend has a 1DM3 and is looking for a big lens. Since it's F/6.3 at the long end, adding a 1.4TC means it won't auto-focus on a 1 Series since now F/8.8.
However, if the TC is non-reporting, I wonder if that is "close enough" that the 1-Series might give it a decent try at 700mm.

The Sigma f/6.3 lenses usually report f/5.6 on the long end, if past history is any guide.

Yes it will, the sigma lies about it's max aperture, no need for rubbish TC's or taping pins.
