p.2 #1 · Poll: Is a computer essential to digital photography?

Wait Peter, Coleman lanterns are for getting MIFs (moths in flight), surely something you would be interested in if you want to keep ahead of the rest of us in utilizing ANY lens for TTF (things that fly). As one of your fans I anxiously await the first TTF with the 65 macro.

John, if I was your age and my eye sight was still adequate, I would have accepted that challenge. Alas, the way things stand today, MF is a thing of the past for me.

p.2 #3 · Poll: Is a computer essential to digital photography?

As of now, 43 folks have taken part in this poll, 39 of whom feel a computer is essential to working in digital photography, and four of whom feel one is not. That equates to 91% for, and 9% against, per the ratings at the beginning of this thread. This seems to initially indicate that most folks who partake in digital photography find the use of a computer essential to those activites. It should be noted though that a much larger sampling of participants is required before any conclusive statements can be made.

In contrasting the data here with that of the Should computers be sold (on FM's B&S forum) poll, where from a total vote of 40 thus far, 29 are against, and 11 are for (73% and 28% of the total vote, respectively), this observer finds it rather interesting that while most folks feel the use of a computer is essential to digital photography, many also feel computers should not be sold in the FM B&S forum. This is supported by anecdotal evidence provided primarily by those who are against selling computers here, where the stated rationale appears to find itself rooted in past experiences and/or the fear of many different type of items that could/would be found for sale, whether related to photography or not (e.g., computer components, pocket and tablet PCs, camera phones, camcorders, desk chairs, coffee cups that look like Canon lenses, apparel, kayaks, used hiking boots size 13, lunchboxes, thermos bottles, folding chairs, inflatable rafts, baseball tickets, Coleman lanterns, lawn mowers, vehicles, and so on and so forth.).

In that it seems that the sale of such items here via this web site more or less resulted in general mayhem during the earlier years of this site's existence as well as some hard feelings that are still evident today with reference to such sales; it is this observer's opinion that the restriction applying to the sale of computers will probably be continued to be enforced by the private party who both owns and is responsible for this web site in general...

Mind you, that's an opinion that was just stated, not a recommendation. Recommendations would indeed include allowing the sale of computers on FM, with limitations/restrictions that would mandate the sort of computer-related equipment that might be sold. For more information, see the introduction to law. It's written in layperson terms, and suffices from a sociological perspective.

Just sharing my thoughts as a business analyst.

Happy shooting!

We need to be able to sell 4WD vehicles here. I cannot do photography without them.

Except, FM is not a democracy. In other words: there is only one opinion that counts.
