Yea Nick, got to hand it to you that 200L is one sharp lens...even with the 2x!!!!
Reminds me of my 400L DO...it is also sharp with my 1.4x or my 2x!!!
Thanks for the info regarding the C.Fns.I just received my Mark IV Saturday and was just wondering what the guys (and Dolls ) were using to get successful BIF shots.
Based on what I've read so far these settings seem to yield great results.
Especially C.Fn III-4:1 and C.Fn III-8:2
I will try these settings along with the defaults.
I did find that I was more successful using single point focus with no expansion points (especially with distracting backgrounds) and C.Fn.III-2 set at Fast on my Mark III which I just
recently sold.
BTW/ It looks like wherever you are you have the same weather we have here in N.Y.

Hi Andrew,
I am wondering the same thing. I have read several posts and so far my take is that your personal shooting style and the conditions you are shooting under need to be taken into consideration.
So far I have registered one set of CF in my 1d2 and am still trying to figure out what to do about the other two CF sets I can register.
Maybe we need to expand the discussion to what are the best three sets of CFs to register.

I think the defaults should work reasonable well. I like using the surrounding assist points but not the 45 point option. That didn't work well for me.
Oh, and it makes sense that we have the same weather b/c I am from NY as well.

Yep, nothing like a little competition to bring out the best in the Best!!!!
Great shooting Ken...love those Shovelers and the focus holds well on the little guy too.

You say that the 45 point option didn't work....I guess one has to find the given situation that it
does work as designed. The idea of one set of clusters handing off to the next set and the next if needed, interests me.
So you're in NY too....I thought I recognized some of those birds!!!

Hi ragebot,
I agree that your personal style does comes into play in determining some of the options...as well as the existing conditions. This is why I feel that what works for one may or may not work
for me.But it's good to get an idea of what settings are being used by a cross section of other
shooters.
BTW/ You mention you use the 1D2....Since this is a thread concerned with hands-on usage of the 1D Mark IV you may find that much of what applies to the IV doesn't apply or work with
the 1D.I say this in reference to the various settings.
As far as registering various sets....Right now I have to work on my first set

Yeah, I think it just depends on what you are shooting. I noticed with the 45 point option on, the AF would go crazy trying to change the AF point while trying to track the subject. I don't know what kind of algorithm it is using, but it just didn't work for me. Besides, I like having control over what AF point is selected.
Yep, NY. Pretty standard set of birds. Nothing fancy. Nothing exotic!

I didn't see that anyone had answered this. As I recall reading somewhere, AV = "aperture value" and TV = "time value." Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
So, have people worked through the firmware update issues with their big lenses?
Shot about 350 frames of futsal training indoors last night (variation of soccer played on basketball courts). Really the first time shooting indoor sports for me. All shot at 6400 or 12800 ISO. Focus was consistent and fine. What I did not do was raise the in camera noise reduction for jpeg (I shoot jpeg and raw), and the out of camera jpeg are pretty noisy. The raw files do seem to clean up very well in DPP, so I may post a few burst sequences in a day or so (work allowing) once I have a chance to settle on a work flow and get the files out.

I've always wondered why 'Tv' (Time value) isn't 'Sv' (Shutter value) instead. 'Sv' makes a lot more sense IMO.
Maybe (just hypothesizing here) it's that the physical quantity of "Aperture value" is controlled by the Aperture device, but the physical quantity of "Time value" is controlled by the Shutter device... so Av and Tv are named for the physical quantities they affect, not the camera gizmos used to make those physical values happen.
But I agree, it could just as well be Sv, and that might be better for clarity of communication.
