So far, I love mine. Coming from an original 5D, everything's better! I have not done extensive testing with AI Servo focusing, but I intend to do so today. I do not own long lenses. My longest is the 135L. Focus is very accurate in one shot. The files look amazing at low ISO, but I'm not as impressed as I expected to be at higher ISOs (3200 +). Now don't get me wrong, the images are very clean, and they clean up very very well with a little noise reduction. With that said, I would easily use color images up to ISO 8000 and up to 25,600 if converted to B&W.
Nill, good idea for a discussion topic. I would suggest an additional requirement. It would be helpful if the posters also list some of the non-default cfn settings used in their shots. I think this would ultimately be beneficial in clarifying some of the variability being reported.

One thing I have noticed is that when I turn on AF point I sometimes get a rude awakening. If someone posts an OOF image I would like to see the AF points.
A question for presentation: can someone explain to me how to use the feature in Image/Zoom Browser that superimposes focus points on an image to create a file for posting that shows where the focus point was? I'm pretty sure it must be doable, but would just like the short cut. Thanks!
Okay, I just shot a 64 frame burst of my wife driving down our street at about 15-20 MPH. I had 6 "unusable" frames for a 91% keeper rate. I lost three frames when she was behind a tree and mailbox at the same time. I lost the other three as she passed behind another mailbox. The second time, she was much closer, and the mailbox took up most of the grill of the car that I was focusing on. I expected to lose the shot with the mailbox covering the grill, but I also lost the two frames that followed. By the 4th frame, I was back tack sharp.
I do not shoot sports. Well, iddy biddy soccer. I'm very pleased with the AI Servo focusing. I'll keep testing tomorrow, and I'll try to post some pictures from my test.

That is true, but with two other LCD screens, you could probably shoot quiet a lot without the color LCD.

In DPP I go into view and select show AF and do a screen print and past the file into an empty CS file I have opened.
There probably is an easier way, but I am a DPP and CS noobie. I have used the Browser some, but not all that much.
First I want to thank you for starting this thread, "brilliant". I hope we can keep it off of the RG issue entirely. I got mine 3 weeks ago and updated to firmware 1.0.6.
It was superb before the update and I noticed no difference afterwards. I recently mounted my 300/2.8 L IS with and without TC's and find the AF is fantastic. I do not like all 45 points active and find that I like CF III-8 set at Left/Right, Surrounding AF Points, or Disable. It just depends on what I'm shooting. Also, I've played around with CF III-2 quite a bit and find the default (0) best for most things wildlife. I don't do much BIF but my trials show that setting is also best for BIF. To keep things in perspective, I briefly owned a Mark III and it just wouldn't focus. My 5D Mark II is fine but nothing like the Mark IV. Same for my 40D. I've decided that their isn't going to be a set and forget bunch of options for my shooting, too many variables. No problem the IV makes it easy to modify on the run. Also, so far my lenses all seem to be spot on. Thanks again for starting this thread.

Just would like to add, I have a local friend who has purchased and returned one with the same LCD issue (intermittent and then total failure), in minor snow and average winter temps. AF, he says, seemed fine, but was never thoroughly tested.

David, what were your Cfn's set to? If you did not have the AF tracking sensitivity set to 'slow' it may be the reason you lost AF to the mailbox/tree.

I knew there were Cfn's that could probably affect my particular test. I meant to mention that in my last post. I could try setting the tracking sensitivity a little slower to see if that helps some. I am a little surprised that there isn't more fine adjustment with tracking speed. Here's how I was shooting;

I have had mine since just before New Years, I updated to firmware 1.06 when it became available. I shoot mostly birds right now and have had good luck with it for that. I would say I am getting slightly better keepers than the mark3 gave me and definitely more keepers than I was getting shooting with my 5D2. I have found that using the expanded points around the center point gives me good results. Being that it is winter though and the light is not as nice as summer time golden hour light I don't know how the images will look in my favorite light conditions. I shoot with the 500 f4 for most of my BIF shooting.
