Let's wait and see if others are having problems like Rob Galbraith is observing. And remember, karma is unkind (well, there's another word for it, but I don't want to get suspended or banned).
Rob will be testing the D3s. He may find something worse than this.
I'm not REALLY happy that the Canon is a turd (okay, gloating again - bad Helmut, bad!) but that I switched just before the announcement!
and he said as much as the D3s (and any other camera by extension) is not perfect, just 'perfecter' than the Canon products. I think that's understood. (or maybe the Sony - nah, just kidding )
I'm sorry that's just sad. As a former Canon shooter I feel nothing but... I'm not even sure what I feel, but it's not good. It's something unpleasant and sickly and depressing.
It might be pity. Here's to hoping the Canon guys get a well sorted reliable body.
I'd like to see him test a 1DmkIIn against a 1DmkIV.
I love the D3s but I'd like to see some happy Canon shooters. Let's hope this is an anomaly and Canon fixes these issues, if they are widespread. I guess the olympics will be the crucible for this new body.
It's not a bad thing for Nikon to catch up, but if Canon has too many problems, Nikon will jack prices up even more! We want both Nikon and Canon to roughly split about 80% of the market with Sony or someone else taking most of the rest to keep them honest. This is how we will continue to get great new products with decent prices.

i'm just glad i decided to start off with a nikon D70s, all those years ago..
You think your glad ... I was shooting Minolta film bodies ... I debated staying with them or switching to Nikon ... thank God I switched to Nikon!!!! The D70s BTW.
I have read the test, but as RG mentionned, some situations were extreme... What would have been good would have been a test side by side with the D3 also in the same situations ... But there is still a confusion there... The 1DIV is a pro camera for Portrait and Landscape (like a super 5DII, accent put on the IQ, and not the AF), meanwhile the 1DsIII and soon the 1DsIV is for Sport and everything around... That's the real competitor of the D3 and D3s. Don't forget that... Nikon is just missing that double niche...
I've never had focusing issues with a Nikon body. Yeah, my D70 was slow to track, but I solved that with my move to the D2H. I still have all four of my Nikon bodies.

Ummm, no, I think you got that the other way around. 1D4 is for sports and wildlife, the current 1Ds3 and forthcoming 1Ds4 will be for studio photogs, landscape, portraits (fashion), etc.. Though I do just fine with the 1Ds3 as a wildlife camera, but thats me

I agree that you may have your models reversed. 1DIV (1.3 crop) is considered to be more for sports and 1DsIV (FF) is considered more for portrait/landscape. Also, Nikon has the D3/D3S is sports/PJ and if you need more megapixels Nikon has the D3X.
Really...who cares? Go out and make pictures with what works for you...
I have a friend shooting in Vancouver right now. Know what he's using? A Mk II N. He's getting paid a lot more than most of us here. Last week when we were shooting a wedding in a cave, he asked to borrow my D3 for a while because he wasn't comfortable with what he was getting w' his setup. So what? Use what works. Get the job done and move on... [Insert favorite emoticon here]

, you can say over and over again until your are blue in the face, but I don't know if folks will listen. I think I've made a similar statement at least twice this week....
