The problem is that one "mediocre" review is from a credible source who has published his extensive findings and data. This is worth far more than a dozen reviews from consumer publications not worth the paper they are published on
French magazine "Chasseur d'Images", which is one of the best in Europe is also saying that the 1D4 AF is very fast but lack a little bit of consistency. But overall, it is a good improvement from the 1D3.

And the winner after the second day of this thread, defending the honor of Canon to the grave, would appear to be "keithreader" with 19 posts. Mr. Reader just barely edged out "Scowl" who finished up with 18, and while "Scowls" posts end really have nothing to do whatsoever with RG, or focus or even a good old knock em out white side - dark side battle, it is interesting to learn how software development works.
Coming in a tied for a distant 3rd would be "Kakomu", who seemed to run out of steam in the debate about firmware upgrades and "Pixel Perfect" who was at a huge disadvantage as he actually stuck to the point of the OP in the first place.
Honourable mention goes to "Nill Toulme" though his tactic of using complete sentences, logic and fact went against the grain of thread and also to of course to "David P" who could not quite "FOCUS" and spread his 28 posts across the 3 different threads that RG has inspired.
Stay tuned for tomorrow nights stats as it is quite possible that someone who actually owns a MIV may make the top 10.

For your next effort, how about a tally of posts that contribute nothing to the thread? ;-)

Touche' Nill; you shall receive a bonus 5 posts for pointing out that this thread, along with my help, has a signal to noise ratio of about 50db. You also earn 5 more points for catching the intended sarcasm of my post and another extra 10 posts for creating an actual useful Mark IV thead which is located below. This of course vaults you to the top and you are now the early day 3 "leeder"

The real TRUTH is...if a review is favorable to what ever brand you are a fanBOI of its A FAIR AND UNBIASED review. If a review is infavorable to whatever brand that you are a fanBOI of its BIASED!!.
What you bois don't get is that if there is a problem you should be concerned. Its doesn't matter what brand you have. Instead of blindly defending, you should stop and think...hey this might really effect me. Know we all know that the AF on the MKIII and IV really only affect the actual professional photographers. They're the one's it has to perform for. They're the one's that have to get a quality shot on demand.
To the rest its just annoying, but its something they could "put up with" out of loyalty to the brand. I'm sorry, I know that this will piss alot of you off, but that's just BS. If there is something wrong it should be FIXED, not just for the pro's but for everyone.
I'm going to coin a new term here....BRANDBOI.....he's the guy or girl that will defend to the death whatever purchases he or she has made, just because they bought it.
Oh and don't feel sorry for the pro....He can pass the on the cost of his new equipment to his clients AND deduct them from his taxes AND sell them used to the BRANDBOIs. It doesn't cost as much as you think to change brands.

I find it quite amusing that the majority of people squawking about the MKIV will never own it. That to me is true BRANDBOIism.

What those who cry "Fanboy" are missing is the fact that SEVERAL (as opposed to one) other sources have stated that the 1DIV is a success. What the very same people fail to take into account is the fact that RG clearly has ties to Nikon, Canon's largest competitor, therefor his review can be heavily scrutinized and can easily be seen as biased. That's not to say whether RG is right or wrong, but the evidence on the contrary seems to point to the latter.

No one wants to address his clear ties to Nikon. They just want to call people fanbois.
Wait? So you're saying RG's staffer is tied up in Nikon for life? NOO, that means he's unbiased!
Has RG found a specific, consistent problem with the MkIV AF?
From the basketball and soccer series, that were supposed to be the worst, I will say no.
What he has found, is inconsistency. The MkIV misses here and there, where it ought not no.
Wait a second. Something familiar with that phrase? Aah, It is what RG says about the D3s for soccer.
"... misses a shot here and there, where it ought not no ... "
I know I shouldn't ask, but... when did we start spelling "boy" with an i? Is this yet another generational thing that I've missed out on? Do I need to watch more reality TV, or tweet my facebook or something?
Nill
p.s. While I'm catching up on culture — can a female be a fanboy, or this strictly a male thing?

Well here is clear proof of his bias. Saying the same thing about both brands? Wow! talk about bias.

Actually, I think its a Georgia thing. And yes a female can be a fanboi, just like a woman thespian is now an actor instaed of actress. No its not a generational thing, I'm probably older than you. Try to keep up..

I wasn't clear enough. The MkIV comment was my words, about what I see from the files.
They show how the same data set can lead to wildly different conclusions, depending on where you stand.

I don't care about what RG says......I'm going by what has been said by shooters on FM.
You have entered a discussion about a review that you have not read, and don't care about, only to point out that people should listen to it no matter what?
