Lateral CA seems unavoidable with the 100 close up as well. maybe on FF it is better
It's the same on FF. If you focus via liveview at f/2.0 in a high contrast scene (like midday sun), you will see the dramatic green to magenta shift in the colors, depending on whether the subject material is behind or in front of the plane of focus (as I recall).
Conversely, if you do the same with a Leica APO, there is absolutely nothing to be seen in this regard. The difference is amazing.
So maybe the Zeiss 100 is best used in low contrast situations. The bokeh and 3D nature is superior on the Zeiss 100 I believe, but at the cost of CA in high contrast scenes (particularly with blown highlights).

The lady on the bench is very much in focus, the pattern on her dress is very sharp on 100% crop. And it's 2.0

That is very sad. I though CA on Zeiss lenses is a rare thing to occur.
I totally agree. The bench shot is a great example of what this lens can do. You will probably see a lot more those results if you are dialed in for a low DOF. I don't have the 100, but the CA does seem a bit excessive.
Purple fringing in front of the plane of sharp focus, green fringing behind it. That is normal behavior for this lens. You will not find much color fringing in the plane of sharp focus, if any at all.

That's a good example. Like I said, if anyone wants to see it dynamically, real time, try out live view and it comes to life before your eyes.

we have to ask how do other non APO lenses behave in similar circumstances. also, it is possible that this is a result of design that gives priority to sharpness and other excelent characteristics of this lens. I do not know the answers
alundeb: Very interesting shot! I like it. How do you find the MF with the 7D?
Ajay: Great shot.
Adam: Nice portraits! Great comparison shots with the ZE 100MP and the ZE 85/1.4. It would have been interesting to compare the 2 lenses at the same f stop. I find the 85 comes alive after about f2 to 2.5. My preference for the portrait would be the 100MP.
johnahill: I really like your shots with the 50/1.4. It has a unique style to this lens and how it renders.
Herisson: Your 100MP does not seem right. It could OOF, wrong plane of focus, marginally. With the 20D and even the 5D, you may need to calibrate the focusing screens, unless the copy of the 100MP has an issue itself.
Denoir: I like the shots of the animals Particularly 2 and 3, as you can almost feel the texture of the coat.
Nice creative shot Gary. Love the colours and composition. I find the BG to be a bit distracting though (nervous and spinning). I have seen similar shots form the 21 distagon and found them to have a more painterly bokeh rendition.

Thanks! Yes, I agree with you regarding the BG.... Might have to do with the fact that these flowers were very small and I was extremely close to them.
