Very nice Philippe But seriously, your first shot with an über-fast 100/2 lens that is magnificent wide open and you take a shot at f/11?

Luka, I am surprised that you didn't see that this picture is a metaphor for my first shoot with this lens. The grown man with his flute represents the experienced, talented photographer getting the most out of his lens. It could be you, Snowboarder, Wayne, Lotus, Samuli, or others. And guess who the little boy his trying to make his ram's horn sound like a flute? :cool

Congrats Philippe on your new 100MP! Look forward to seeing more of your shots with the lens, hopefully with the lens more wideopen.
I think the grown man represents you and others making "elegant" pictures with the 85/1.4 and 50/1.4 while the boy trying make the ram horn sound like a flute is us using the "less-elegant",brutish 50MP and 100MP! !

I'm afraid that Wayne is right though. In the illustrious company posting in this thread, I'm the inexperienced little boy with only about one month of experience with Zeiss glass

So, for this next 100MP image, I'll fall back to something safe: When everything else fails, post a duck...

If indeed "inexperienced", then possessing an exceptional amount of raw talent.

(Förlåt mig, det inte på svenska - det var för svårt. Yes, even I have limitations!)

Denoir, just because of you I was trying to take a shot of a duck wideopen with my newly acquired C/Y 35/1.4 and laughing as the ducks were not about to let me close enough to allow me to fill the frame more.
Somehow I think the 100 is a more appropriate focal length for duck shots.

Hehe, teles are for wusses. Real wild life photographers use wide angle lenses

I'm terribly embarrassed to say, but I don't have any proper 21 mm shots of ducks. The only thing I can offer are these swans (some of the first 21/2.8 shots I ever took and it was in harsh daylight but unfortunately I don't anything else duck-like shot with that lens):

The 'shortest' ducks that I've shot was with the 50/2. I might have posted this one before:

+1

Luka: Forget the wide angles for wild life and animals unless they are tame and stationery, although good shots for the 21

Denoir,

Beautiful shot of the swans but you are cheating by taking that shot from a bridge over the stream.
I think there is some mustache distortion going on with the 2nd swan's bill in the first swan shot.
You get extra credit for fast focusing the flying duck shot with the 50MP!

Thanks, Charles and Wayne! Hehe, definitely mustache distortion on the second swan

I think Wayne that you've found the perfect lens to provide a challenge for duck-in-flight shots. It's wide angle, so you have to get close, it's MF and with a thin DOF wide open. Perfect!

I'll have to settle for my 35/2 wide open, but it seems like it can be fun as well. You see about two months before I got into the whole Zeiss racket, I got the Canon 70-200/II. After shooting a huge number of bird in flight shots I grew tired of it. No challenge really with a 7D and the 70-200 you just had to point the camera at a bird in nice light and you'd get technically perfect shots. It's so easy with fast AF and 8 fps that you soon grow tired of it. I mean I have hundreds of shots like this one:

It's fun for a while but ultimately there is little creativity involved - mostly just technology. So I started doing more wide angle shots of wildlife. When I was on a week of safari in the Karoo desert of South Africa in may, I used a wide angle quite often. Then came the Zeiss and my first shots with the 100 MP were bird in flight shots. I really got a kick out of the MF. So you see a combination of MF and wide angle for wildlife action shots is really my holy grail

Thanks, Charles, rsolti13 The credit however should go to the maker of the camera/lens. The only thing I got to select was the light. The rest - including the timing - are all courtesy of high FPS and good AF. I'm so much happier now with the Zeiss glass + 5DII where I actually have some creative control. I'm definitely keeping my Canon AF glass & 7D for the occasions where it is critical to get the shot, but I'll use it only when its the only choice.

I like that first shot Philippe - I see that you have your favorite lens-testing places

Lovely colors Charles. I'd probably go with the 35/2 or the 28/2 - the FL is better for indoors shots. Plus you'll have to get fairly close to people and the 50/1.4 isn't exactly brilliant up close and wide open.

Thanks Luka Probably the 35/2, only because I know it works. Still getting used of the 28 and like to test it out on portraits and see how it performs.

don't give up on the wild animals with wide angles. it takes patience and planning for the shyer animals but i have seen some incredible results. shouldn't be to hard with ducks if you know where to find them.

here is an egret shot at 28mm equiv:

sadly not on a zeiss . someday in the not too distant future i will hopefully have some zeiss glass of my own. in the meantime i very much enjoy seeing what you folks can do with on this thread.
