FlyPenFly: jolly nice, perfect contrast for those foggy shots. There's some white particles (?) in the lover left part of the first one. Why is that? The last one (ski-lift) paints the Zeiss colours I'm used to, almost too contrasty for such a situation, something I often struggle with. Anyway, great photos.
Here are a few more from Istanbul (D700+1.4/50ZF all @2.8)
Smridevan: Nice 351.4 shots, My favorite is first one as well
akul: Another wonderful set (p462). you can make any photo sharing. The one in this page is also very nice.
alkanphel: Nice Bokeh and B&W conversion, would it be even nicer if increase contrast a little bit?
Ulff: Wonderful images both, slightly prefer the color one.
FlyPenFly: All three are wonderful, the first one has really good mood. and clarity on third one is incredible. It would be nicer for 2nd one to put horizon on 1/3 or 1/4 of the frame, IMO.
frezeiss: Another incredible landscape set. #3 is my favorite.
Greg:
P50 is my favorite Zeiss lens, I can tell they are P50 shots without see your description. Some of your photoes shows why people complain about this lens, like your 2&4 shots. I have find for both close distance to your subject and busy background close to your subject is the situation I usually avoid.
A lots of people hate this P50 because of Haze wide open and occasionally busier Bokeh if not careful. It is regret to see people turn down this lens because of these without fully evaluating it further. It has beautiful bokeh for long distance and best Bokeh to me after f2.8 as showing the image below your post by Rodluvan . IT has classical Zeiss micro-contrast and color once past f2.8. The size, weight, price and smooth focus ring and just about right focus turning distance and versatility once you need speed make it overall a winner. I see a lots of P50 shot in this thread earlier make me fall in love with this lens. You may want check them up. If you find/expect you shot wide open all the time on this lens, you may find better 50mm lens. I can read your hesitation about this lens from your post, You need evaluate what you need
Rodluvan: another wonderful set of street shots. what happen to Istanbul? Sorry, as kids and works plus this forum make me isolated to the world now.
Akul, frezeiss, Thorsten: Thank you for your kind comments. Yes, P85 is a very nice lens, it is sharp and contrast wide open with nice Bokeh. it took me a while to realize it is very sharp lens at f1.4. I had Nikon 85mm 1.4G and that is a wonderful lens. after I did a comparison, find out Zeiss is just as sharp if not sharper.
This P85 is a perfect lens to my use, very similar as P50 with better wide open performance and never busy Bokeh. I wish P50 has the same wide oepn performance as this one, that will be my perfect lens You know, though I love my 351.4 lens, but I do think that lens is overrated, to be honest :-) It has something to do with the focal length I guess

Thanks!
Nothing really much has happened, they're doing some reconstructing in their own fashion. It's a very chaotic city.
Can you tell me about the big kind dogs that walked around the city, ppl seemed to like them and even fed them. This seemed unusual as stray dogs are often frowned upon elsewhere.
zhangyue: Thanks! As far as the horizon, on the original shot, that is what I did but I ended up cropping it the way it is simply because there was too much fog in the frame. Your shot of the ship shooting into the sun really works for me, great exposure.
Rodluvan: Great street shots! The white specks were ice, I was debating removing it but kept it in.
greggf: I think the composition of your last shot with the leaves is the strongest of that set.
Gregg, if you want to see why some people love the Planar 50, don't shoot so close up. It isn't that great close up, use the Makro-Planar for that. The 50 Planar excels at mid distances wide open (maybe 5-15m or so) and stopped down at distance.
