You can also just use a T/S lens like Philippe mentioned or a pano head.
True, but I wonder zeiss would ever release aT/S.... Or bring a ladder and get as high point as possibe, or use vertical position to keep camera leveled, crop extra... Or, let go and shoot however you want. I am sort of either shoot from distance, or shoot vertical, or 'shoot however I want to shoot' camp, knowing I won't be trying to sell my shots to the architect
Smridevan - congrats on the first image post. I like the Capoeira shots.
Philippe - Beautiful detail. I like them both, it is a hard one for me. I like #1 for composition, #2 for the feeling of being there. #1 treat the subject more graphically, whille #2 treat it spatially.
Wayne -- No, you're not the only one who likes to keep things straight, when possible. Correcting tilt and perspective are part of my PP for handheld shots of angular scenes.
From humble beginnings: Here's a couple from last night. First, a test/set-up shot while determining the focal length to use. Second, one of the final candidates. Minimal PP on the "final", but involving sharpening, exposure and color. The final choice will get a more thorough PS'ing, including adding a light to the blown bulb on the right side.
First shot with 24mm TS-E @ f/8, second shot with Zeiss ZE 35/2 @ f/11 (better star effect than f/8 versions). Both with Canon 1Ds3 @ ISO 100. (akul - There's nothing blasphemous about buying a 24 TS-E! Any TS is about as Alt as you can get. Do it! )
Interestingly, I shot two cameras simultaneously: the CPS loaner 1DS3 with ZE 35/2, and my 60D with ZE 21/2.8, for a similar angle of view. The 1Ds3 images were slightly higher rez and smoother transititions. How much was the lens?, how much the body with its firmware?, and how much were my personal settings?, I don't know. But the 60D images could have been useable for the 16x20 inch image needed for the intended 2012 wall calendar. Choices! Not having done a previous location survey, I also had on hand the 24 TS-E II as mentioned, the CPS loaner 17 TS-E, and the 16-35L II.
Verdict: The 1Ds3 is an awesome imaging machine, and the Zeiss glass performed perfectly in the first twilight assignment of the season (excellent handling of light sources and edge details). The 1Ds3 is getting a little long in the tooth technologically (clunky LV, LCD, and menu), and while reviewing the images on the monitor, I couldn't help but wish for twice as much resolution and smoothness in the fine details and noise (I'm sure the lenses are up to the challenge). So it should be interesting to see what Canon comes out with next to replace it and the 5D2.
Great shots everyone, but specially liked Olaf's shot with kids, Jim's with the texture of the wall, and Siddhu's Citroen.
Here's one with 2/35 ZF.2 wide-open and as far as I remember, close to MFD. Everyone's discussing here smooth bokeh of f1.4 version of the lens; indeed, it is, yet I just love the way 2/35 draws busy back/foregrounds at close distances.
By the way, anyone compared bokeh of both lenses at, say, f2 and close to MFD? I saw some comparison shots in other threads on FM, but those were shot from a distance at which background bokeh just doesn't look appealing to me (though considering focal length and distances, they were totally fine - just not appealing), no matter what lens you use.
it's been a while since I posted. Nice shots spread over many pages!
21ZE:
BTW:
I received some very large prints (more than 2 meters wide) of pics taken with the 21ZE and 50MP.
Never did this before and I'm blown away by the quality. This makes me love the zeiss glass even more.
frezeiss -- Thanks! The first shot is just the bland set-up shot, shown here to expand the presentation -- probably more of a distraction that relevant info.
Gunzorro - On Nikon camp, 24PCE is supposed to be quite good, but unlike canon's, rotating tilt direction, I gathered, is possible but not quite user friendly. I have pondered about this lens many times, It will probably happen some time in the future. I hope they did 28 PCE though, as that is my favorite FL for architecture. ( and probably 50 and 85 range) Thank you for showing the fine example of shift work. It has quite a fine detail. It sounds like the final pick was on Zeiss ?? Did you correct vertical on your zeiss shot ?
nickson- beautiful flower shot with 35. I quite like the painterly bokeh. Wow to the bench shot.
bobring - I like the first shot very much. Interesting context. Nice texture.
Jochenb- beautiful shot. I feels very cold and wet.
Jim - Nice pic. As always, great composition.
alkanphel - Nice to see your work again. Very nice B/W conversion. #2 is my fav
Smridevan- Nice portrait.
Ajay - Good to see your shot here again. Wonderful bokeh.
Siddhu - Very nice dog portrait !
