I know this is not the Leica R thread, but just wanted to post a silly comparison. Compositions are entirely different, but just look at the sharpness attained by each lens.
Both images processed through the same flow.
The Leica is definitely sharper, of course its stopped down 2 stops more. But the bokeh on the Leica is crap, now the bokeh on the Zeiss is pretty sweet. Why not stop the Zeiss down to f4 to compare sharpness.I am not sure why you posted such a 'comparison'

I had a pretty productive day today, finally qualifying with my ZE lenses to get another official entry here on the board!
Some panoramas from today using the ZE 35/2, and mainly the ZE 21/2.8 in the vertical orientation -- for the first time on my 60D! Usually I'm trying to get the full frame action, but thought it was about time to try them on a cropped sensor.
Most are f/11 or f/8, PP in LR3 and PSE8.

21mm
Here are two processing variations of a small church interior with the 21mm.

I was short on time and the weather is really bad right now, but some first quick impressions:
- Just like the other zeiss lenses, it's beautiful built.
- On a 5DII it feels a bit unbalanced. Front-heavy.
- Focusing the 35/2 feels easier/faster. Maybe because I'm still used to the smaller focus ring of the f2 + the 1.4 has thinner DOF.
- Good sharpness, already at f1.4
- It seems to have more CA than the f2.
- Some of the best color saturation/separation I've seen in a lens.
- The nicest bokeh I've ever seen in a 35mm lens.
It has a different look than the F2. A look that's just more appealing to me, smoother.
Might as well post a quick livingroom test shot at f1.4:
I also got my ZE 35/1,4 yesterday And the weather is also terrible here.
My first impression after some shots in and around my home is about the same. But I have only used live view so the focusing was rather easy. I was also very surprised how good it was wide open (but I have only used it at rather short distance) After reading Lloyd Chambers review I did expect something much softer and with a lot of haze. More like my ZE 50/1,4. But my impression wide open with this lens is a lot better. The large size/weight fits perfect together with the 1Ds3 or 1D4. So my first impression was better than I had expected.
Uzay, Carsten, Lars, prosep, Gunzorro, Philippe - I had no idea how strong a lust on a nice vintage car could be. Anyhow, thank you !
alkanphel - That is a one happy looking buddha
Hexonxonx - I am enjoying the textures you show, especially the #2
Jochenb- Very nice clarity your shot with 35 1.4 is presenting.
Cyra - beautiful flowers
Jim - That is a great shot.
Ajay - I can't afford to get excited on Leica R lenses. I need to focus, focus. focus... Very nice shots. Leica shot looks just great
Gunzorro - Wow, that is quite a hyper real image. Love the #1 especially. It feels like a strange dream of some sort.
Lars - I can't wait to see what you are going to do with your 35 /f1.4

Cyra, lovely flowers!
Jim, very impressive capture. Nice rendering of movement!
Akul, another very interesting pair!
Dalmas, this is just sooo good!
Alkanphel, the composition is brilliant!
Gunzorro. details and clarity of each image are excellent.
akul, love both! 1st one is really special.
Dalmas, awesome mystic atmosphere.
alkanphel, nice colors and composition.
prosep -- Thanks! Those are really low rez versions actually. I export PP'd individual images @ 1400 on the long side (to save memory) from LR3 to PSE8, where the stitching is done, then back to LR3 for final cropping and tweaks. I'd love to see how they would come out in full rez -- the originals are very sharp.
I hadn't planned to shoot the church interior, but was spontaneously invited in by a park worker. I would have done things differently if it were planned, but would it have been "better" than just jumping in? I don't know -- this seems more like being there in the darkened space with lonely side windows.
Akul -- Thanks to you too -- these composite images are almost impossible to completely comprehend when taking. It's not until they are combined that the full impact (nicely put, BTW) is evident. I really should publish them smaller to see the scope, but larger is more like being there, scanning through the dream.
I love those twilight shots of yours, and it gives me hope for why I bought the 21/2.8 -- nice definition in the edges with the light sources.
Dalmas -- Thanks to you as well! Your fog shot is a real archetype -- such subtle chromatic variation, and that lovely warm glow around the steeple. Just perfect.
Dalmas, they are more than amazing photos, maybe I should try to catch some sunrises at some point, but living in London isn't too inspiring for that...
thanks akul, I very much like the mood on your first night shot.
Dalmas, your early morning mist shot is superb, and the church shot is quite catching as well, funny how the city shot appears cool in tone albeit it's yellow cast.
thanks philber!
taz-K the colour intensity on your first 35/1.4 shot is amazing. The composition of the third bothers me somewhat, the oof flowers draw to much attention and they are cutting into the sand bank.
