In about a month, I'll be taking a cruise around the fjords of Norway. The cruise ship is one of the large ones, and there will be some excursions in small boats.
I've got ZF 21, 35/2 and 100 lenses. Does anyone have any tips for using them on board a ship or small boat? I would imagine that the ship will be relatively stable, but anticipate that the small boats will be moving all over the place. Will really fast shutter speeds help me, or am I just going to be out of luck? I've never tried to shoot from a moving platform before...
Haha, Victor, where have you been so long? I saw a post from you yesterday or the day before and wanted to answer... I am taking a break from it all, too much to deal with at home and at work. Just text from me these days. In a couple of days, my 180 Cron will arrive, and then I will set out with that and the 200/2 VR to compare and choose. I guess not in this thread...
Wow, this thread is growing in very rapid speed. No comments to individual photos, but you guys with ZF25 make my life hard waiting for ZE version if it ever comes.
5 full days in Austria (+travel) - 3 days with rental car, rest of the time in Vienna. Visited few mountain roads also on North Italy while driving around Austria. Didn't particularly like Vienna, but I think it's just my "tourist allergy" that made the beer taste good and photography less interesting...
1085 RAW-files, stacked by time automatically so that HDR-bracketed frames will go to stacks of 3 files ==> 675 images remains after initial stacking => 470 normal and 205HDRs. After further going through 541 images remain after similar compositions have been combined to stacks, also few images were removed due to camera shake (shoot everything except 5 photos handhold).
The remaining 541 images were shot with:
- Carl Zeiss Distagon T* 2.8/21 ZE - 95 images
- Carl Zeiss Distagon T* 2.8/25 C/Y - 109 images
- Carl Zeiss Distagon T* 2/35 ZE - 30 images
- Carl Zeiss Planar T* 1.4/50 ZE - 162 images
- Carl Zeiss Makro-Planar T* 2/100 ZE - 154 images
I had two 5DmkII bodies and 100ZE and 25C/Y worked really well together for landscapes, for city stuff 21ZE and 50ZE provided quite good combo but didn't feel as natural as 100&25. However since I suck at wide angle photography I need really big mountains to use 25mm, I wonder how some use 21mm - In Finland 25mm is way too wide for any landscapes for me.
Too tired to start the exhausting process of giving the images from 3 to 5 stars, then processing the best, doing HDRs etc. Later this week hopefully.

Well this is image thread... I don't want yet to post nothing serious from Austria trip so let me introduce my rental car: Ford piece of sh#t Fiesta, made for mountain countries like Netherland - serious advice, do not rent this car for Austria, Switzerland or nothern Italy if you plan to drive mountain roads. Worst is the gear box, or actually gear ratios - they are way too long for the zero torq engine (no torq to accelerate, neither engine break) AND 2nd gear is so long that in many deep hills I had to engine break with 1st gear, which naturally is way too short, but sure you can see the scenery well, very well indeed.
promising vistas behind that red thing looking forward to your images!
I find that also 85 and 25 work together very well for landscape, the 85 being also less bulky.
Peter - Nice capture, strand of stray hair adds to the picture.
OneAnt- I like the monster t-shirt. Why D90 ? Is your D700 in shop for repair ? Just curious.
mjassbong - Great series from Nevada. color is just stunning.
Bob - Beautiful shots of Cochem castle. They are all great, my fav, though is the first one.
Dalsmas - Simplicity of the wall and door with the texture is my favorite. #3, is pretty.
Jim - Very nice flower shot with 35
Melbmanu-Nice portrait I like B/W on this shot
Samuli - Looking forward to see your shots from your trip. Interesting insight on Ford Fiesta. They must have done the weak gear ratio just to get more mileage rating. Your HDR technique is simply amazing. Very natural to my eyes.
Cyra - I really like the rendering of 25, but the shot with 85 drew my attention. Great shot.
As always, on the last pages a collection of very good pictures, congratulations to all.
Samulli I'm waiting on my chair to see your pictures impatiently :-)
