It doesn't seem controversial to me. The poll wasn't about who was the best photographer of the decade, just who was the most influential. That is mostly an issue of marketing and social outreach, not photographic skill. All that said, a lot of the photographers are good, this poll just wasn't primarily a measure of that.

Aside from the various griping about some of the photographers on the list - I think the discussion that started later in the thread about wedding photographers never ever being considered influential in a "real list" is interesting reading.
