Showed them to my wife, and her comment was: "I'd demand my money back", and the little girl photo comment was: "Victoria (our 11 year old) could have done that". She is my harshest critic. Reminds me of this:
Unbelievable. This thread is already starting to get ridiculous on the first friggin' page. As someone clearly points out each time Sergio posts, they knew who they were getting when they booked him. Now if the client was blindfolded and just threw their money at a photographer and had NO idea what they would be getting then yes, maybe they'd be disappointed. But nobody does business like that. A photographer is hired because of the style and consistency they see in one's own work. Did they expect Sergio to completely change his style for this particular wedding?
I am getting extremely tired of seeing people post things like, "oh this is just aweful...muted tones/no color...people chopped off...my 11 year old could do better." How is that constructive criticism? Unreal how these threads continue like this...
As another FM'er pointed out. Serg, if your posts continue to get to 5-6 pages you must be doing something right.
I absolutely love this set myself. It isn't the way I shoot but that's what is wonderful about photography. It is all about what your "eye" sees and how you want to capture each moment. Keep doing what your doing Sergio. If I had even an ounce of your abilities when I was 19 I can't imagine where I'd be now (almost 29 years old).
grognard, i have to agree with you. It does nothing for me. but the rest of the work is not bad. I have seen Sergio's work before and have been impressed but this seems to be OK
A general question I have wondered when seeing the stylish is: do photogs shoot to impress themselves or to wow the client if they only look at it several times in the first year and then put away?

You just have a very different and more conservative idea of wedding photography.
You forget that this is typical of sergio's work, work that the B&G would have seen beforehand and clearly love.
Therefore the B&G specifically wanted this style. If they had hired Steve Tinnetti, Hoffer or even you Grognard, they would have been dissapointed. They wanted Serge.
Thats the trouble with niche photography, those that understand it, dig it in a huge way. This that dont like it are equally polarized in the opposite direction.
However, I like to think that a majority of the later are mature enough to understand its a taste thing. Your 'critique' was not an opinion, it was an attack. People tend to get 'touchy' when accused of being a fanboys.
Im beggining to think that there is a little conspiracy going on here.

What makes it a wonderful image? it helps to know technique to make a great photo and just being a fan of the shooter.
What about it appeals to you?
Have you read any of my posts?...the particular image in question is not my favorite. As a parent I'd love to have such of photo of my daughter. The images has a sense of innocence
and the fact that she has a wine glass in her hands is ironically humorous.
I've never been a fan of Serg's work or attitude.....but this is a GREAT set. Although some of his work is not "technically" sound, he is great at getting the "human" side of his subjects.
Snap shot looking or not.....as a parent, don't tell me you wouldn't want an image like this of your child.
No, I do have a "classical" outlook on photography, the Avant Garde, and just plain bad has never appealed to me. I don't do Weddings, nor do I do Quinceneras unless held at gunpoint, I tell people to hire professionals who do this for a living. I don't, and won't. It just seems that since this was pointed out to me by another member who agrees with me (BTW), that there is a clique here who is in awe/drools on anything posted by certain members. Again, I have a wife who lets me know immediately if the photos are not to standard. No conspiracy, I do not normally frequent this forum, but as I said before in a telecon with another member (Who IS a wedding shooter), who called to tell me how bad these photos were, and I had to look at them to believe them. And from some reactions,(Leave and never come back is one) I hit a sore spot, and perhaps said that the Emperor has no clothes, Hmmmm?

Help me out here, I'm a little confused.... You don't frequent this forum... Somebody called you up to tell you about these pictures and you came here just to bash the shooter? Why would somebody call you on the phone to tell you about this shooter's most recent post? Don't they have the backbone to make comments themselves? They have to get you to do it?
And unless your wife is a photo editor somewhere, I don't understand how her opinion matters any more than yours. Oh. Wait. I forgot. You just said... she tells you what your opinion is. Right.
Lilsten to that... Your phone is ringing!! Better ask your wife if you can answer it. Somebody just posted pics of a dung beetle over in Macro and that dumb bug is rolling it to the left. Everybody knows it's supposed to roll to the right!! You better get over there and straighten 'em out.

I don't think it's a bad set considering he doesn't have much experience in weddings.
There are a lot of things I'd change to make it better as it does have that Uncle Bob vibe when you take away the post processing. It's kind of what saves it.
I am still seeing a ton of really red skin and it's just really unflattering.

Relax please. This style is not for everyone and we can all respect that. Please remain calm and slowly push away fron the keyboard if you must. We've been doing great, let's not mess it up now. Carry on.
