Would you guys be so kind to tell me the minimum focusing distance of these lenses :
50N, 85N, and 70-200N?
I'm kicking around the idea of purchasing either the 85N or 50N but have read that the autofocus of the 50N is a bit lacking in terms of speed. How is it in comparison to the 17-35N as I don't shoot photo often but find that the 17-35 is more than acceptable?
Thanks
I am the one who posted the slow AF of the N50. It is usable unless you are using Al servo to track subjects. N17-35 and N50 photos samples are posted just a few posts up. IMO, you'll need both. The N50 has a wide f1.4 aperture which is very useful for subject isolation. I am thinking if you put the N50 on an APS-C, it will become an affordable N85 (sort of)
I have both a 5dmk2 and 7D so that may be a good option . Does the 50N have a slower AF than the 85N? I have a 17-35N and find that its AF speed is fine for my needs so if the 50N is close to that, I'm happy.

I assumed you have read this to arrive that the N50 AF slower
Can someone with N85 and 1.4x/2x TC post images captured wide open and stopped down 1 stop. I want to see if this combo can replace my 70-200 zoom lens. Thanks in advanced.
I feel like I'm almost ready to bite the bullet with the 24-85 (just $500 on KEH, hmm...) The trouble is the conversion - after I receive it I'll have to ship it back abroad, then back in, every time playing lots in shipping and customs duties... Anyone in the US willing to help?

There are a few in the FS section already converted for sale. I am sure the seller will help you out on the customs bit. I know I always do when shipping to people in countries that try to rape them with taxes...
I see. Got to check the B/S section more often - I don't because of the customs (I bought a lens from KEH and it cost me lots of additional money just to lay my hands on it). Though I had the impression that those who get the N lenses don't part with them except at gunpoint.
They come and go occasionally in the FS section. Had a member loan me his 24-85 converted and purchased one in the FS section 2 days later. The price range is generally between $1100-$1200 US for them converted. Well worth it as I believe they have the colors and contrast of normal zeiss primes and the actual lens FL is perfect for walk around and is fairly small and stubby compared to say a 24-105.

Thanks for the information. Still seems a bit lower than the 24-70 L that I don't fancy owning for some reason.

To that I agree because I found the Canon EF 24-85 to be a very convenient range on a 1D series body.

great firewire picture lotus, who is zozobra BTW?
"Zozobra", aka "old man gloom", a 50 foot tall (about 15 meters) functioning marionette. Every year during the Feistas de Santa Fe he is burnt in effigy to take away your troubles from the proceeding year. You can even write down your troubles and submit them to be burned with Zozobra. Gets a crowd of about 25,000 people. They even give him some Frankenstein-monster like sounds to make. These seem to get more frantic when he is burning which is very creepy.
Here is a set-up shot (N 50/1.4) to give an idea of scale, and a shot of him burning (N 85/1.4) http://www.boncratious.com/images/Arrival-zozobra.jpg http://www.boncratious.com/images/Burningzozobra.jpg
Anyone with the 70-200 and 70-300 have some comparison shots at 200? I have the 70-200N and am contemplating getting the other... maybe some shots comparing the 70-200 with a 1.4 TC to the 70-300 towards the longer end.
Just got a bunch of lenses back from Bo-Ming so I'll be posting some pics soon
