You can use both together which is what I am doing on my N 50. Bo-ming's MA is better as it allows you to adjust for near, middle, and far focusing ranges.Just need to follow his programming sequence detailed in an email thread on his forum.

Is it true that this adjustment is not needed if the the lenses were converted fairly recent?
Like 2009 ....?
This is a micro-adjustment which you only need if your AF focusing is off, either front focusing or back focusing.
Check your AF focusing out by focusing on objects near, medium, and far away while your aperture is wide open. Also, check focusing while stopped down to make sure there isn't any misfocusing there due to any focus shift. Maybe your lens is ok without any MA.
Bo Ming's method does work alright. If anything it's more 'feature rich' than Canon's as it allows you to set MA at MFD, mid distance and infinity.
It can be a bit complex though
The Contax N lenses need to be converted by Conurus to fit on a 5D MarkII.
For Planar 50mm f/1.4 Contax Yashica mounts you are referring to: yes you need to use an adapter. I hope it helps
Any chance you could shoot some comps between the 17-35 and the 24-85 in the focal lengths that they overlap (i.e. 24/28/35) ??
I wouldn't mind doing it, but my skill is not good enough to do any valid test....
Anyway, I'll try to do it .... just don't put too much weigh on my comparison shots....
