Well, the year end is getting closer and closer and based on the weather forecast, it doesn't look that I will be able to get anything.... There were several images from Bosque that I would consider of posting but I am afraid that a lot of us here are pretty much "sandhill craned out" (is there such a word ?). So, I decided to post this as my best in 2009. It was captured at Bolsa Chica Wetlands. The feeding frenzy of the brown pelicans that morning was only so-so. I would say some 20 pelicans were there having breakfast. By just sheer luck, I was following this guy but didn't trigger the camera until I thought he got close. I managed to get this brown pelican as it was about to dive into the water in a single shot! His beak just touched the water. There is no cropping on that image whatsoever, just the way it was captured.
A lot of beautiful shots in this thread, everyone!
I was going to post an eagle shot until I seen Thomas Sanders contribution, thats awesome.
So I'll post a Bohemian waxwing. These guys landed in my backyard in a snowstorm feeding on apples I threw out, stayed for two days. They are so small I couldnt distinguish the array of colours on them until I zoomed in.

thanks for the kind words. i'm really glad you enjoyed the image. it's one of my two favorites. i've got another "attitude" shot that i posted recently but i don't want to post a second image here......until someone else does.

This little Hawk Owl is one of my favourites from this year. Since they travel so fast, I like the challenge they present photographing them in flight.
This is most definitely my favorite image of 2009. It was taken in February at the Ngorongoro Crater National Park, Tanzania.
We came upon this scene just as a several hour struggle to take down a cape buffalo had ended. One of the pride members seems to be taking pause to reflect on the success.
