No matter what your intentions are, topics like these always turn into Sigma bashing topics. How do you know if the people voting this poll own this lens? Right, you don't
Guess I just have to trust that people aren't a holes--I guess that's being naive...because everyone is out to get sigma You're probably right though...the lens, in actuality, has no issues--it's a conspiracy!

In that case: If it helps you deciding not to buy this lens I would be glad to vote "issues at all distances". Just let me know

Vivek, if you are going to use MF, I see no reason to avoid the Sigmalux. It's optics are superb and bokeh is - IMHO at least - better than the Zeiss.
Happy shooting,
Yakim.
Yakim, I think you are right... The only thing I have to remember is that at least with Zeiss, I will not try to AF. With the sigmalux, I will most likely try, and be disappointed when I view the photos on the PC!

Not necessarily. 50% stated they had no AF issues whatsoever. If not, just switch it to MF and use a lot of gaffer tape.
Dialed in the lens... shot with it last night... stayed in the F/1.4 to F/2.5 range and it hits. So... looks like I won't be sending it back to B&H after all.
Here's the link to last nights shots... https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/847672 a mix... Sigma 50mm F/1.4, Canon 135L, Canon 24-70L... all the Exif data is in there if you have a reader...
Really happy to have the lens dialed in... It's just fun to shoot with!

Congratulation, look like you got a very good S50 copy - man i love the BUGER shot
I don't own this lens, but considered before getting great 50L copy. And that is pretty much why: 17 + 14 + + % of this poll results are pretty high numbers as I could see.

Make sure they work with all bodies you have. I am sure you will find a great copy. best of luck. i'm thinking get one for myself at local.
Not to worry, I plan to put them through their paces on all bodies and directly against my EF 50/1.4. I'll post the results here.

clearly a len that would be best bought at a store and not ordered
Probably...though I'm not into paying NYS tax nor do I enjoy spending more time than I usually do in B&H...and I don't think they would appreciate me thoroughly testing multiple copies of each lens. This is the reason I ordered a couple lenses to test. If I'm lucky my experience will reflect the poll--a 50-50 chance. IF I get two good ones I may end up selling one to someone looking for a good one rather than returning it. The lenses will be here sometime today...
My version that I purchased was because I got it for a song and it was in beautiful condition. Although currently it's still at Sigma as I haven't had time to call and find out when I should be getting it back.
This is the second time that it has been to Sigma and it's still just a smidge off.
My version focuses Ok at any distance it's just that only from f/1.8 on does it actually look sharp.
When I hit f/2.0 it's dead on razor sharp but the focus still tends to be "skitzo" in dark light.
I hope that when I get this back it will be dead on because I intend it to be used on both of my 1D MK III cameras.
