The focusing screen is really good on the D800, and it would kick ass in the D700 (and maybe in the 5DII and/or 5DIII). However, while in good light, I can keep a good keeper rate with the D800, as soon as the light drops a bit, so does the keeper rate, due to the high resolution being so much more picky about correct focus. Even something as simple as moving into the shade on a sunny day. I am currently experimenting with live view even for handheld shooting, which obviously works best with relatively static subjects. I go into live view, compose, and while keeping the composition, move the focus point to the correct place, and then drop into 100% view, where I focus and shoot. There is a sort of double-sound, which I think is the photo being taken quickly, and then the live view coming back on slowly, but I need to verify that this is indeed what is happening. On a tripod with a static subject, there is no issue, just use standard live view practice.
Buggz, check out this comparison between the SmallHD DP4 and the Zacuto EVF (be sure to watch all 3 parts). Although I would prefer a bigger screen, after seeing this, I am leaning towards the Zacuto. I guess I am adding this to my wish list now, as I am broke after buying the D800.
By the way, Wilhelm, 36MP sounds like a much bigger number than 21MP or 22MP, but in real life it is just a bit more. I think the AA filter is lighter on the D800 on top of this, but 22MP is loads of resolution already. I really got the D800 just because I wanted a FX Nikon with higher resolution than about 16MP. Ironic, isn't it. In spite of not really needing the 36MP, I do enjoy it. Last time I was out shooting with Bernhard (with his 5DII), he forbid my using the words "sharp", "resolution" and "detail" and any variants thereof, while chimping.
