Unfortunately, what hits on mine is the rear element glass itself. Unlike some other C/Y's, the retaining ring isn't a protective ring. I've got an adapter ordered that's supposed to be 1.5mm. If it clears then all is well even though it will probably focus a little short of infinity. If not, it's too risky and it will have to go to a new home.

Maybe the C/Y version has the same infinty adjustment that Anden talks about on this thread? My Rollei was fine on my SLR/c, but hit on my 5DII. I made the adjustment and now it is fine.

So you adjusted yours so that it wouldn't hit? I just took a look and mine has the screws. If you adjusted it so that it wouldn't hit, didn't you lose infinity focus? I'm not real concerned if it focuses a little short of infinity but I don't see how you could have moved the rear element away from the sensor and kept actual infinity. I'll have to give it a try tomorrow because it wouldn't take but small movement for it to clear.

Mine barely touched, so it still has infinity.

I picked up a C/Y version after this thread began and to my surprise, had mirror interference problems on my 5D2. I didn't remember seeing any posts from anyone else having problems even though PebblePlace gives it an iffy rating. Anyone else with a 5D series body have problems?

My 5D mirror hits the block to the side of the rear element. But, it is focused just a hair past infinity on the adapter that causes the issue. So, I don't believe it would hit the glass if I removed the block and made sure not to focus past infinity. I am leaving the block on the lens for the time being. I have another adapter on the way that I hope will solve the issue. We'll see.

Yes, the Contax version has similar adjustment. I have the MMJ version, and under the rubber ring there are 8 screws. At one place there are 3 screws linning up in a row (from front to back), the front two is the movement arm for the floating system. The rest, and the other five screws that run around the whole focus ring, are for the infinity adjustment.

Slightly loosens these 6 screws and you can disengage the focus ring from the helical (so as to adjust infinity). Don't unscrew them completely unless you want to disassemble the lens. I have done that to relube my lens, but found it very hard to re-assemble the lens back .

I have always been weary of pulling back the rubber, especially on a lens in very good condition. Does the rubber ring bounce back well, or will it loosen?

Hi ewadler,

The rubber ring bounces back well and the fit is tight.

Actually, before I opened the lens, its external and internal looked very good, and the focus ring turned smoothly. However, the front barrel was somewhat loose. And when at wide-open, the image sharpness was way better if I pushed the front barrel backwards! So I had to open it to replace the dried lubricant.

It took a hell of time to put it back together .

Ok, thx. Hmmm...that would make me nervous, glad you got it back together!

I just put the Rollei and Contax side by side (Front element down). Both lenses have the front element recessed about the same distance from the front of the barrel, but I noticed that when sitting front element down on the table next to each other, the rear element of the Rollei sits quite a bit lower than the rear element of the Contax, meaning that the Rollei is quite a bit more compact. This is odd, because I assumed that they were of identical optical design.
Curious...

Good info about doing the adjustment. Thanks. Didn't get to it today but I'll try to tomorrow. I'll let you know how it comes out.

I agree that it is a great social lens but I find myself grabbing the CV 40/2 more often for its compactness and unobtrusiveness

well finally got the adapter to screw in all the way on the rollei. had to shave off a tiny bit off the adapter. now i gotta do that infinity adjustment .. i gotta get me a tiny screwdriver though, those screws are tiny =O

edit: those screws are tough. one fell out, luckily it was in my hand. i had to adjust it 3 times, i think i got it right now but ill have to test it further. lens is such sweetness! i wonder how this compares to the 35ZE
