i just picked up mine, °-)
and did a litte test against my rokkor 35/1,8
and u are unfortunately right.
its another league.
sharpness in the centre is almost the same,
but
oof blur, wow.
3D wow.
focusing is a little stiff, and the ways a long.
do u use a hood? which one?
and a protection filter? the first lens i quite a the top ...

good night and good light.

Mine came with a flower shaped hood. I donīt use it.
My focus ring was a bit stiff to. Gets better when used...
Never use protection filters. Sometimes a Polarizer.

hi,
and of course mine does not reach infinity,
maybe because of my cheap adapter,
so which one do u use?
where did u get it, (EU, Germany...)?

No need for a new adapter. On the focus barrel you'll find three tiny screws. Open it slightly and now you be able to adjust infinity.

Yes that is the one I have. If you look at the smooth area of the focusring there are four screws. Three are in line. If I recall correctly I turned the ring to infinity, loosened the screws and slightly moved the ring back. I then tightened the screws and turned the ring to infinity. It is a bit of hit and miss but if you try a few times you should get it right.
Well, I have had the Contax for less than a month and I came across an older version Rollei at too good a price to pass up. Funny story actually, I saw it on the Keh in-transit pages. When I got the notification on Thursday, that it had arrived, I tried to buy it and was sent an email after my credit card went through telling me that there was a mistake and the lens had already sold. I was disappointed, but figured last thing I needed was another of the same lens. Then I got an email on Monday from Fedex that a package was on its way, and indeed, it arrived today. The glass is absolutely perfect and looking through the barrel of the lens at the mechanics and build, it is obvious that the lens is exactly the same as the Contax with a different barrel design. The focus isn't as smooth, even the damping on the aperture ring is nicer on the Contax and I wasn't sure the glass was mark free until I cleaned it with a bit of solvent and microfiber, but after I give them a head to head test, unless there is a major difference in image quality, zeissness and sharpness, I will probably keep the Rollei and sell the Contax. All things being equal, I just don't need a mint Contax, even though, I would like to keep it.
I must say, everything about the Contax is nicer without shooting through the Rollei, but we'll see. I suspect the optics are absolutely identical.
If it is the older version Rollei I'm sure it could use a CLA and relube. The older versions are 20+ years old. The Zeiss 35/1.4 was introduced in 1967, and Rollei came out with their first QBM camera in 1970.
The T* and HFT coatings may have evolved some over the years, so the coatings may not be the same. Then of course, the Rollei has the very unusual triangular aperture when stopped down.

You are probably right. Do you know of anyone good who will perform a CLA and relube on a Rollei for a reasonable price (And that I can feel good about sending my lens to them)?
I picked up a C/Y version after this thread began and to my surprise, had mirror interference problems on my 5D2. I didn't remember seeing any posts from anyone else having problems even though PebblePlace gives it an iffy rating. Anyone else with a 5D series body have problems?

I have not tried the C/y 35/1.4 but the 35-70/3.4 interfered with my mirror even though it should be fine. Maybe you can trim the rim that causes the hang? That is what I did with my 35-70.
