I just got Paul Yi's 35 1.4, amazing piece of glass.
I bought the HappyPageHK V5 adapter from Ebay and despite their advertisement saying their adapter removes the mirror contact problems, my mirror hangs. It seems to vary from hanging almost indefinitely to a few seconds depending on where I have my focus. The closer to infinity, the longer the hang.
Is shaving the mirror the only "mod" I can do to get rid of the hang? Will the ,mirror hanging break anything in my 5DMKII?
I've read this entire thread several times now. Anden talks more at length than anyone else on how to get around the mirror-hanging problem, but there is never any clarity (at least to me), on how to do this.
Will my 5D get hurt if I let the mirror hang over and over? Or do I have to shoot in live view to use this lens?
Again, my happypageHK adapter, V5, did not solve the problem...
I have Andreas' (Anden) old lens and it clear infinity without problems. I guess it's a question of adapter and variations in mirror distance. The Rollei version allows for relatively simple infinity focus adjustments, but I've never done it myself. As for your previous question if it can damage your 5DII - I don't think so. I have a Rokkor 58/1.2 that hangs the mirror on a regular basis and I've never had any problems with the camera.
I have the Contax AE version working on my 1ds3 with a HappyPageHK adapter. That thinner adapter allows me to get proper infinity focusing and I don't have mirror hang. Whereas the Fotodiox Pro adapter which came with the lens originally was a thicker adapter which did not allow me proper infinity focusing. You could maybe get a thicker adapter like the Fotodiox Pro and then try adjusting the infinity focusing point.
Or try to file down the edges some on the rear element holder if it is hanging on that. Of course this is tricky/scary to do without taking the lens apart.
Or use it as is and just don't focus past a certain point.
Look to see if the mirror is not scratching the back element when it hangs. Although, I have hung my mirror on my 1ds3 while converting a Rokkor 58/1.2 before I had the rear element filed down enough(now it doesn't hang), I wouldn't recommend hanging the mirror much. Good luck!
AHHHHHH I am super irritated at myself today for not figuring this out sooner. I went back to denoir's sharpening instructions on the previous page because my images looked soft/slightly washed out....turns out google chrome makes my images look like garbage as opposed to safari...even though i have it set to srgb export! Has anyone else experienced this before?
second question, I created a photoshop resize action (as per denoir's baseline guidelines). However, I realized that I always upload my full size photos to my flickr site (since I use that for hosting). If i wanted to truly show the zeiss character at websize then I'm guessing I should have two sets then? 1) full size 2) websize ...does flickr's downsampling do a crappy job?
i have the same issues with only safari showing the images with proper color. very unfortunate since i much prefer chrome as a browser.
i just upload a full sized image and a downsized one to flickr. there are websites with much worse downsizing algorithms than flickr's, but it never looks as good as if i downsized it myself.
