Thanks Gary, ht77, Charles, teh_rebel and umm..I think Paul

Charles: Not really. My currently most used lens is the 85/1.4 Planar followed by the 21/2.8 Distagon. I rarely use the 35/1.4 when I'm using a tripod. This lens is excellent for closeups, but you need to get close which is a hassle with a tripod. It's much more convenient handheld. So as I've been using a tripod lately and shooting a lot in the evening (longer exposures) I have resorted to tele & UWA lenses as they are easier to operate from a tripod.

Paul: This one is definitely worth buying.

Not that it matters to me, but have you added blur to the bokeh here? It looks "too smooth" in the corners compared to the middle, as it normally is the opposite. Or is it just selective sharpening?

Well spotted Makten. It's a bicubic resize, smoother and selective sharpening on the foreground. I did not use my standard sharpening script because I found it sharpened the bokeh too much.

teh_rebel,

Nice SF shots! The big tree looks like the ones in Golden Gate Park, of which I have shot with N85 1.4.
Hope you had a good trip and enjoyed the Bay area.

Luka, really like the kayaker shot!

Thanks wayne. I believe that was from Golden Gate Park. We were walking towards Japanese Tea Garden. I'm not used to seeing such huge trees coming from FL lol. Also wanted to go down to Muir Woods but didn't get a chance to. I love the Bay Area, specially San Fran. Beautiful city!!! ... Are you from the bay?

Yeah, Golden Gate park is very nice.
I am originally from the East Coast, Connecticut, but have lived in CA since '87 and lived in Silicon Valley/South SF Bay area since '93.
SF in the summer can be very cold due to the fog/marine layer and wind and must have seemed cold compared to FL.

actually i loved the weather. not hot and not too cold, only when you get closer ot the bay (golden gate bridge) or up high (twin peaks) would be windier and colder but to be able to walk around outside all dya and not sweat, i love it lol. here in FL, you step outside your house and youre already sweating. You rather be inside with the A/C, but in SF, its perfect to go outside and enjoy the weather and the outdoors

Yeah, I don't miss the humidity.
But you have lots of excellent bird and wildlife their in FL along with the Everglades.
I love those beautiful B&W MF shots that one photographer has taken there with the trees over the water.
Would love to visit some day and shoot there with the ZE 21!

Ok i know we've seen it 3 times already but to me that is THE best example of why this lens deserves all the praise. No other lens can pull off this look IMHO.

I personally vote this lens as one of the all-time greatest for any format.

Put this one in the dictionary under background separation and 3d!

It looks like a medium format shot

Take a look at this one - it's the strongest example of that effect that I've seen:

The few samples from the new Nikkor 35/1.4G remind me of the (also new) 24/1.4G: nice color, but no such thing as seen from Zeiss (especially above here).

Oh, my ......

That looks like a perfect teamwork between the camera, lens, and, of course, the shooter.

Thanks Paul & ewadler. That would have been pretty much impossible with any other lens - at least of the ones that I've used. On occasion I can get a better medium format camera look from a single 35/1.4 shot than from a panorama shot with the 100/2.

A couple of random shots taken today at the office & my walk home. Nothing special, just a bunch of random shots and a bit of bokeh experimentation:
