I don't know what it is about off-season and changing gear! I just sold my 1DMK2 and 135L and have $2250 to play with. I got good prices on them. Kit I still own is 20D, 24L and 50 1.4., and a 580ex2
I loved the 135L and am very open to getting another used one. I only sold it because I was making a good profit on it. The 20D is really just something for bak-up so obviously I need a main body. 5D seems the obvious choice right now. I do like my primes, and have my eye on a 85L for $1100 which would leave with enough for a used 5D. But then I don't know I really want a 24L with a 5D. Would much prefer the 35L. So maybe I should sell the 24L too!
ya 1ds2 is sweet. I love both my 5d and 1ds2 and would always want them as a pair together they just feel right. but ya I would have to try the 35 and 24 to see which I like better. I shoot with a 28 now so its like in the middle.

Personally I'd save a bit of money and get the 85 1.8 over the 85L. It's a very, very good lens. Also, I think once you try the 35L, your 24L won't get used nearly as much.
As for bodies, the 5D would be perfect fit. The 1DsII is a great body as well but the 5D does a remarkable job. I have the 5D, 1DsII and 5DII and I keep going back to the 5D for a lot of my work.

That^. At least it's true for me. Will probably sell my 85L now (after using my 85/1.8 again). I don't use the 24 nearly as much as the 35, by far...
If all you currently have is a 24 and 50 then I think the 70-200 would be very useful. If you like the 24 and 50 you might avoid the 35. It was the best lens I never used as I preferred 24mm and 50mm to 35 anytime. Also, I know alot of people use the 85 as their longest lens but I think you're really missing out on the tasty goodness at 100-200mm.

i once had a 70-200 2.8 (non-IS), and was never happy with the quality. I tried out the 135L and was sold. On my 1D Mark II I found it to be a bit long in a lot of circumstances but I imagine on FF it is very different. As much as I want a 85L I am a little nervous with that being my longest lens. Though I would have the option to throw it on my 20D. As for the 70-200 2.8 IS I might find myself frustrated with the quality after using the 135L, but can imagine having the IS would be kinda useful!
So I saw the title of this thread, and saw that Todd was the most recent response....
Dude: I can't believe you didn't even mention Nikon in a "gear change" thread. Your business must be really good right now if you don't even worry about those sponsorship dollars they give you every time you say Nikon.
As always, Martin, I'll advise that you not only need two cameras but redundancy in critical FL's. Whatever you add, make sure you have at least two lenses that can cover any focal length you need to shoot the wedding. If your 24L or 35L is your only wide lens, you may need to add a zoom or a second WA prime in case of breakage or failure.

thanks man. and I will have 2 bodies.
got someone local to me selling a mint condition 85L (v1) for $1100. I am thinking that is a good price. Anyone not think so?

I think what Evan is saying is that it's not just bodies you need redundancy on but lenses as well. How would you feel if your 24L died on you and you were left solely with the 50 and 85? If I were you I'd add some backup lenses. They don't have to be expensive ones, it just good to have something just in case it all goes Pete Tong.
28 1.8, 50 1.8, 85 1.8, tamron 28-75 are all cheap and excellent performing backup/main lenses. Don't worry about an (overpriced?) specialty lens when you've got holes in your professional capacity. You could buy 2-4 lenses for the same price.
