I finally set aside some cash for this lens and I was wondering if this is a keeper for most people...
I have a xti I was gonna upgrade to a 5D but I figured ill wait another year or so...
the longest lens I have is a 85mm 1.8 so sometimes although not often feel the reach is short. I know everyone has different needs but I'm trying to get some feedback.
This one I will never sell; well only if I get the IS version. This lens is light weight, sharp and relatively cheap. Those three words cannot be said in the same sentence for most L glass.
Yes, the 70-200 F4 is a quality affordable L lens.
-- sharp images
-- very good color and contrast
-- fast focus
-- much smaller size and lighter weight then F2.8 version
I find it is an excellent lens for sports and other action photography.
At one time I had 70-200 F2.8 non IS and 70-200 F4 non IS.. I sold off the 2.8 and kept the 4. Lighter weight, great IQ, fast AF used it in Antarctica and as Vivek says I have no plans to sell this one.
It's the first L lens I owned many years ago and it's the first lens I have ever owned that I realized the L thing and glass does make a big difference. It has been gone for a long time now but I have fond memories myself I prefer the 2.8 because I need a faster lens
Bought it, sold it to buy the 100-400. Liked the 100-400, but missed the 70-200 so eventually bought a 70-200 f4 IS as well and I am now a very happy camper.
I had the non-IS version, loved it and sold it for the IS version which I also love. But I just had to send it to Canon service - after a year and a half of very light use, it just kind of fell apart inside. I never even banged it once and recently I noticed it was performing worse & worse. I chalked it up to user error but finally the other day I shook it a little and heard all this stuff rattling around inside. I had never heard that before. Don't know if it's the lens elements, IS or something else. Very strange. Always thought of it as one of my toughest lenses.
