How much do the small Oly wides vary in size? Does anyone have some comparison shots they could post? Thanks.

the slower 21. 24, 28's and 35 are all pretty much identical in size. There might be a few mm here and there but its not particularly noticeable. They are all TINY. A travelers dream

From what I've seen the f/2 28 and 24 are pretty well identical in size.

Cheers

28/3.5 - best bang for the buck
28/2.8 - good lens
28/2 - underrated, very sharp and contrasty
24/2.8 - if you like this focal length, get this instead of a 28
21/3.5 - my most used Oly - superb at f/8 and f/11

You may visit my web site. I have a rather big collection of OM Zuiko lenses with lots of sample images.
The f/2.8 is among my favorites and actually my oldest lens.

The 28/3.5 love thread convinced me to pull the trigger on one. Found a nice looking one for $32; the seller didn't realize the case has the hood stored in it (could see that in the pictures) so didn't list that part -- the metal hood usually seems to go for $15-20 alone.

And this evening I found a 24/2.8 for $114 with hood and caps... damn it. I guess I'll see which I like best!

Beyond the obvious, how do the single coated and multi coated 24 2.8 lenses vary for IQ?

My copy does not state MC. It has the Serial No. 149433. must have been around 1983/1984 when I bought it from B&H New York. So I am not sure if it is single coated or multi coated.

But it gives good results.

My copy is multi-coated and says MC on the front ring. I think the MC lenses are just supposed to be a little more resistant to flare, but other than that not much different.

I quote the following from:

http://zuserver2.star.ucl.ac.uk/~rwesson/eSIF/om-sif/lensgroup/lensterms.htm

Scroll down to the last sentence.

"Are single coated lenses, if and when you think you can determine them as such, to be avoided? Most certainly not! All Zuiko lenses are guaranteed to produce excellent results. To avoid unwanted reflections you are advised to use a lens hood all the time, which will help much more than even the best coating..."

This is also my opinion. So, I do not mind whether mine is multi or not. I just use a lens hood all the time.

I had both single and multicoated 21mm and found that the multi was much more resistant to your "run of the mill" flare. Both still had the dreaded "red ring" flare, but it was less pronounced on the multi.... even so, I got rid of them in favour of the 24mm late model "Japan" version.

Anyone got some examples of distortion? Right now my two options for 24mm are the Sigma 15-30 (surprisingly good, but huge), and 24-105L (obscene distortion on wide end). Hoping the prime will do better.

It's not comprehensive, but you will find some sample images comparing the Oly24 with the 17-40 & 16-35 II in this thread..... http://www.potd.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=2631

Scroll down to "Part 2: 24mm"

Thought I'd report in, and mention that I'm extremely happy with the 24/2.8, to the point where I haven't really given the 28/3.5 enough attention.... the images from the 24 just look so nice I have a hard time getting motivated to use the 28 at all.
