Me too. I asked for the lens to come with the hot pink as well as a bright green for when I'm in forested environments. Its amazing what Canon is doing these days. He said they are working on developing a "Predator" body and lens that will "disappear" when a certain button is pushed. Hello sports arenas!

Do they do a glow in the dark/glow stick casing for concerts?

I guess the question is, is IQ similar/same as the f4 IS version with 4-5 stops of IS worth the extra $1000 it may end up costing? (I have read the price may be $2500)

I mean, what else can they possibly do? (Probably the whole special coating bit they have been doing with new lenses...i.e. 24L MKII, etc.)

I just recently bought a 70-200 f2.8 IS second hand for $1500. I just can't imagine spending $1000 more to get the MKII, no matter how good the IQ may be.

Also who knows maybe it won't be any better? and a grand is a ton money but I just bought the 70-200 2.8 IS old one but if the new version is 2500 no way will I pay 850 more

It's likely to have the new 'hybrid IS', featured in the new 100mm L, but that can't do much more than *possibly* give another stop of IS. Perhaps it could be lighter - the 100mm L is mostly engineering-grade plastic. However, can the optics really be improved much? The price certainly isn't going anywhere but up.

I'll just have to be content with my F4 non-IS, unless anyone is desperate enough to get rid of their f2.8 IS mkI for, say £500...

Exactly. I'm already getting basically the same IQ as the F4 version. And 3 stops of IS is plenty. I bought my 70-200/2.8IS for $1350cdn BRAND NEW from BH just two years ago, so I'm happy ($1450us w BH Code then another $100 off because of dollar exchange rate ).

70-200/2.8L IS, Wide Open F2.8 at 200mm

So, no, $1000 or more premium is not worth it to me.

My dealer just contacted me with privy information. The 70-200 2.8 IS II is being released as we speak and offers some very cool features. Along with an updated 8 stop IS system and even sharper glass, it will come with color changeable casings. So, he said, if you don't want to stick out with a beige lens, you can simply put on a black or neon pink casing on and go as stealthy as you'd like. It will only cost $2300. Chump change.

I ordered one from him. He said he'd overnight it to me. Maybe I'll be the first

I would totally buy the mark II version if Canon change the color to black or gun metal gray. (Not a big fan of the white lenses)

Ohhh, Ohhhh...I like the idea of the color change, too. A big lens is conspicuous enough, let alone it having to be glowing in the faces of the person next to you with a DigitalConcepts 7.1mp P&S (not knocking them, but you know the person) wondering why you're carrying around this big, ancient camera, and snickering when you tell him that your camera only has 4.1mp and is 8 years old. I guess I couldn't find a lens that matched my camera.

Yup, because that's where the focus is
If the focus was to the side, it would look just as good (and does in the thousands of pictures I've taken).

I dunno, Canon's Mk3's will have AF issues so you may be better off sticking with the Mk2 until they get the AF issues sorted out... Chances are they'll redesign the AF mechanism in the lens for the Mk4 though they'll never formally admit fault with the Mk3.

wonders how people even took pictures before 'IS"

We did manage to take pictures before IS but they had to be the abstract blurry type.

yep go ahead and sell yours now, then sit and wait missing all those images you would have got with it waiting for the mk2 (whenever it comes)

Canon's just going to postpone the release of this lens to agravate you. Honestly, if the current 70-200mm f/2.8L IS is so great, why update it (unless the mark II has 8-stop IS, Hybrid IS, a pink glow-in-the-dark case, etc.-- all for $2300 ) And since you are so "sure" of the Mk. II being released soon, you'll make a fool out of yourself if it isn't.

In my opinion, though, it will be one of the next lenses from Canon (because Nikon released their version 2 a few months ago) along with a 24-70mm f/2.8L IS. That's my guess (but I'm not sure ).

What I'm hoping for is a 400mm f/5.6L IS USM update to the 400mm f/5.6L non-IS. It is more needed than a 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM II.

You should sell yours right now. Since Canon Rumors posted it, it's guaranteed to come out. What's wrong with you, why are you even thinking about selling, it should be sold already!?

Certainly.
I don't believe Canon of today can easily make such a great lens again, IS or without it.

Depending on the price point, I would certainly buy that lens, if one is ever made. I own the current 400mm f/5.6L and it's awesome.

The only thing missing is IS, but I am still able to hand-hold many shots because it's so light...
