Nice shot! Regarding spooking: I slowly walked toward the owls until they all looked at me and got in the right position in my owl family shot. Does the BushHawk make a big difference?
Hi Brian, thanks! For me, yes...not willing to lug about a mono/tripod the BushHawk lends some stability
when handholding longer lenses. You form a triangle: tucked in left elbow/left hand firmly on 'Hawk/right one on grip.
Some guys use the shoulder stock, but I find it too restricting (look like a SWAT teamer too)
It makes for sharper shots that's for sure. Been usin' since my film days, PM me with any questions.

Mitch! if you ever want a job as my publicist, just let me know Thanks very much, but I think you give me too much credit. The D3 and fast glass got this shot, I just pointed and hit the shutter.
An old Roman philosopher once said, "Luck is the meeting of preparedness and opportunity." Your preparation and opportunity didn't just meet, here, they had a head-on collision, so quit bein' bashful and stand up like the ole Ditch Primate you are and enjoy the praise.
Publicist? Hmmm...if 2010 rocks along like 2009, I'll hitchhike to New Mexico and start on New Year's Day, 2011. Maybe the night before. Will work for bananas, green chile pistachios, and of course, daily applications of MICROBREWS! ....Mitch
I thought that having the third contact point on your shoulder was what increased stability. I can't picture how you're holding the Hawk without using the shoulder stock. I can't imagine how it would be an advantage. Do you have a photo of how you hold it?
