p.1 #1 · FS: Reduced $100:Canon FD 50L for EOS

Never say never, as I never thought I'd sell this unique lens. Priorities change.

This is a Canon FD 50L converted to EOS mount by myself. It is in mint - condition, except for the fact that the mount has been changed. This lens requires a shortened mirror on full frame cameras as the stationary rear element protrudes into the mirror box by about 2mm.

The lens has no focus shift, due to the close range focusing lens design.

The conversion retains full function aperture ring, and full range of focus, including infinity. The EF bayonet is high quality, and the glass is perfect. There is a bare surface on the mount for a AF chip to be mounted.

My 5D does not have a shortened mirror and I had planned to use this lens as a lightweight fast 85 FOV on a 40D or some other crop Canon body.

Asking $695, Paypaled and shipped CONUS, for the lens, hood, UV filter, Canon front and rear caps.

Please email for more info. Thanks.

Would it work on a 5dm2?

Thank you, everyone for the comments.

Yes, I may have stretched the FOV for a crop camera, as most 50mm lenses tend to be a little more than 50mm.

This lens requires a shortened mirror for 5D/5DII use, unfortunately.

It always pains me when I see one of these come up. My father's camera, his pride and joy, was given to me to use when I was a 'teenager'- knowing it all (still know it all, but I'm older now). It broke after years of use.

He sold it all to buy me a new SLR, EOS 650.

I still would love to put all of this back in his hands one day.

One gorgeous lense- good luck on the sale. If I ever get some lenses they're coming back to you for modding.

Yes, strictly manual focus, just like the FD lens days.

Any pics of the front? I think you accidentally posted the same one of the rear twice

Because of the importance of the conversion to the EF mount, I guess I wanted to detail that. Front view is now the 2nd photo.

Thanks.

Any chance the mount could be machined to clear the mirror on a full frame camera?

would it clear the mirror on a 1D body (not full frame)?

The mount is machined to fit the EOS digital cameras and give exact infinity focus. The problem is the FD cameras and lenses had a 2mm shorter lens flange to sensor distance and the FD lens needs to go into the mirrorbox of EOS cameras an extra 2mm, which causes the mirror interference issue.

I wish I could tell if this lens would provide mirror clearance on a 1D series camera. One way to find out is to measure the camera flange to the front edge of the mirror in the locked up position. This lens needs a minimum of 7.75mm.

FWIW, my caliper says 6.73mm on a 1DsII. Otherwise I would get it. I looks lovely!
