yes and exactly that is what they said in the press release of the 1DIII too, to stress it had improved algorithm in comparison with predecessor camera. I have nothing against it, but I have become bit skeptical. See it before I believe it. Test it before I give money to Canon for it.
Too late for me - mine is bought & paid for but if it doesn't perform, it's going back. Maybe I'm expecting too much but I'm pretty sure it won't be going back.
Canon USA is still on target to release the EOS-1D Mark IV to authorized dealers this month, but quantities will be limited. You're best off to check with your dealer to get the latest availability information.

So it does look like something is not right just before the Mark IV's release date , and Canon needs to do some fixes about it, and it more makes sense that's why Canon pulled off all the Mark IV reviews and images etc...
But hope for the best....If they screw it up this time.....
It could just be that something was wrong with the factory producing the camera, not the camera itself. Or customs issues out of Japan. Or currency strengths affecting shipping costs. There are literally hundreds of reasons the product can be delayed, so don't jump to the conclusion that the camera had a fault.

Here's an extract from a recent mail from my dealer:
'They [the 1DMkIV] are going to be focussed by Canon to the pro market entirely and not on general release until May 2010...
Please define pro market. I placed my order on Amazon.com early on Oct 20. No one has asked for my tax statements or professional affiliations. Now, it is possible many are going to news agencies, and I suspect a lot have been reserved for the Olympics, but retailers don't hold reservations for "pros". They just want the cash register to ring.

I think it's pretty obvious that Canon have been settling in on a final firmware, but I suspect the hardware has been locked and possibly produced for a while. I do believe the camera will be exactly what Canon claim it to be. That's not to say there won't be firmware updates. There always are.
Firmware can be updated after release as it was with the 5D2. I'm surprised that DPP for the Mark IV has not been posted on the Canon site yet. Since no one I'm aware of has mentioned raw yet. I wonder if the delay is their raw conversion in DPP?

I think you're right plus if everyone out there posting "I won't be an early adopter ever again" is actually following thru on that promise, these will be lined up on the shelves just waiting for buyers!

That's true, but I doubt they'll be lined up, because those who say "I won't be an early adopter ever again" will either buy or they were never going to. It's mostly BS. I just hope there are a few in front of me who actually do cancel!!!

They are not my words but from the dealer I use. My guess is that by 'pro market' they mean 'CPS members' - how else would they control it? Not sure about that one...
A buddy of mine is a CPS member, he told me he's never been able to buy equipment directly thru CPS, that they are more there for loaners and expedited repairs. I'm curious if any CPS members out there are being told they are prioritized by their dealer of choice for this or any other purchase?
32067dlm: I said that more tongue in cheek, I think people's buying criteria and the timing of it is usually based on other parameters.
I'm CPS and all over the contract details it says that members WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PURCHASE anything through CPS. That is not how Canon does business and CPS members must continue to use traditional buying outlets/shops to purchase all of their gear.
Like ^ your buddy said, CPS is only for loaners and expedited repairs. They do not sell anything. They do not offer discounts on purchases of equipment.
They're coming. I would think that Canon has gone through the retooling process and is producing them. One thing for certain, these are not going to fly off the assembly line as a Rebel would.
