I've seen a few people on several forums from the bigger wealthier nations wondering why Canon would announce something from the smaller markets... comes across as a bit arrogant to be honest.
Why does it matter where they announce it? Is the 20 millisecond delay in transmitting the announcement across fibre optics really too much for some people?

Its not 20ms from the F.O. but its about 1ms in F.O. + 60-100ms of IP packet messing+1-10min for the Canon to send the first anouncement to the well known sites to spread the news... that are too much for somebody that they are trying to sell his toy before the time of the anouncement.

I find it a bit surprising we still have no reliable rummor 3days before the supposed big date.
Yes - that is odd. With the 7D we got quite a few little snippets creeping out of factories and such. Maybe Canon has sought and destroyed those sources.

In any case, I also seem to recall Canon announcing the 5D II and the 50D first from the Netherlands? Not exactly the biggest market either.
The Netherlands are simply the headquarters of their EMEA operations. For all I care, they'd announce it from Fiji - as long as their products are good I couldn't care less from which GPS coordinates they spread their press statements...
Frankly, at this point, I am more interested in knowing what L lens or lenses will be introduced with the new 1D Mark IV next Tuesday.... . The picture on that invitation looks very intriguing.

I think/hope that the 1Ds Mk III won't sink much lower since it has been savaged by the 7D and 5DMk II already to about 1/2 of it's introductory price. But then I own one.
I am just hoping it is full frame, the rumours about it retaining the 1.3 crop are quite strong, but hopefully incorrect.
I expect 16Mpix, 14 bit ADC, 12+ fps, DIGIC V, improved high ISO, +1 stop improvement over 1DIII, improved pixel-binning in video mode, more video features, maybe even some kind of 'raw' video mode to rival the RED cameras.
I think it will be quite an impressive camera and quite a step up from current cameras and will out feature the D3s. Nikon have been very succesful with the D3/D700 so Canon needs to fight back now....
