Jamach, now I'm really lost. What is the point of the "photos" you posted? I hope it wasn't to show how potent the 30D's AF is!
since it seems to haev caused a stir, well Mark, I posted the pictures to show what the center focusing point can do with a much lesser and cheaper camera. I am also somewhat perplexed as to why you would be so "lost" with a simple post and some pics.I hope my pics did not offend you, if they did then sorry.
So, to buy a 7D to just use the center focusing point is to me a waste of money.
Leaving all the features unused is just pitiful.
I do agree the OP pics were great and the camera delivered with that lonely center point.
I think we could have a discussion without the Canon fanbois throwing in their personal attacks.
maybe I have a couple of systems, quit looking at yourself while thinking on the toilet and get a life, better yet, take some courses at your local high school and make a picture. Maybe you will graduate some day. I doubt it.
We don't need your stinking pictures...go back to your Nikon forum homeboy...

I am not impressed much, maybe 2-3 shots from all in focus as I like.
Breitling, I think No.'s 3, 5 and 6 counting from the bottom are quite nice.......landing/takeoff shots are obviously easier to make. Also, the drakes are a bit underexposed which might be throwing you off when eyeballing focus.
All around a creditable effort by Ruhikant. Remember, some of those ducks are in full tilt flight too, most of them cropped quite large.

It is possible some camera owner issues, however all this shots doesn't provide 7D AF advantage over 50D or 40D for example. Also seem not even close to mk III.
Not attacking anyone, my perception from the images shot with the 7D by Ruhicant is that this camera still does not deliver tack sharp photos of flying birds. When I look at the eyes or the feather details...they are not there.

I just want to say that I did not try to fucus on the eye but I was trying to keep the AF point on the whole bird ( keeping AF on the eye will be next chapter).
I think we are seeing a lot of jealousy in this post. I have looked at each poster's gallery that is complaining about sharpness and so forth. Well guess what, ruhikant's shots are far superior to most of your in flight shots. I'm seeing a lot of soft photos and huge crops in your galleries. Yes, there are a few shots in ruhikant's series that are slightly soft, but overall it's a kick a$$ series!
When I first saw this post, my first reaction was, Wow! and I am still impressed.

Excellent! This is exactly what I was looking for as examples of the AI autofocus with the 7D. Using the single, center focus point without expansion and slow tracking -- that's how I used to set the 1DM3 when I had one.
How much of the frame was filled with the bird? (There's been posts going around forums stating that the focus on the 7D was terrible for BIF, but the subject was only at 5% to 10% of the frame which is totally unrealistic and the crop would look like crap anyway.)
Thanks,
Alan
Looking at some of the frames in a burst, in some cases I totally missed the center AF point and tracking sensitivity set to slow has shown a clear benefit here, not to mention 7D center point holds well in tracking..by itself.
the pictures are excellent,it is amazing how no matter how good something is people will always find something to attack.....the Mona Lisa would have been attacked if posted on the internet lol

Not sure to whom exactly you are talking, but I am against of always using positive responses even if shots are soft/bad. That is causing other issues later, and has nothing to do with being nice to the person. Shots are for sure nice and he did good job, but they are not showing any advantage of 7D over 40D (which I don’t own).
for crying out loud, these shots are sharp...these are pictures of BIF not portraits taken on a tripod....a little perspective is in order once in a while
I guess if you think the shots are bad, then that's your opinion. I'm not trying to be nice, I just think the series is very good and shows good AF capabilities of the 7D. I don't own a 7D nor am I considering one. I use a MKIII, MKIIn, and MKII for action shots. I shoot a lot of in-flight stuff so maybe I have more appreciaion for what the OP is doing. Several of his duck shots are as good as anything I have gotten with my MKIIn, MKIII pro models so maybe I just suck.
I never speak up when a poster says something is crap and it is crap, but that is just not the case here so that's why I suspect some people are jealous.
