Have the various firmware releases fixed the reported issues with mazing artifacts in 7D images? I am considering getting one and would like to know if this is still a prevalent issue. My local dealer has a few, and their policy is that the camera can be returned if there are less than 200 actuations, but that the return will be for store credit or a new 7D.

And interesting comparison between the Pentax K7, the Nikon D300S, and the Canon 7D:
It is interesting to see that 7D is getting better with high ISO. Looking at those curves, it is obvious that Canon is doing something strange in their processing.
Compared to the 40D, doesn't look strange to me either :
- worse pixel-level noise
- same image-level noise (noise in same size prints)
- same dynamic range (nice surprise)
- worse tonal range
- much worse color sensitivity
Canon's recipe for better image quality: mix worse, same, same, worse, and much worse and voila - you have better image quality.

That is a great and comprehensive test
Who cares about great and comprehensive tests? I've done all the tests I need to make sure my equipment performs for my job. My body and lenses are callibrated, my workflow is where it needs to be, and I'm getting good results.
Question is: You said you sold your 7d. But with all the harping that you're doing about it, it looks like you were never really able to leave it behind after all, were you?

I returned it a few days after I got it. I am now able to leave it behind
