i wont get into PRO 1D pricing as their build quality is well above and beyond. a camera NOT breaking down on assignment pays for itself. Both of those can handle themselves anywhere on earth.
but of course the 1Ds is grossly overpriced as the market will bear that.
Which is NOT a problem if only canon would release 3D/3Ds and better semi-pro models (which it ineptly refuses to do)

How about the 1D3 vs the 1Ds3?
A 1D3 AND a 5D2 (with FF sensor) is still cheaper than one 1Ds3. The sensor is pretty much the same, yet the 1Ds3 costs more, and gives up the APS-H sensor in the process

By fast I don't mean the fastest possible prime. I mean, with canon, you can buy fast prime with USM focusing for reasonable price (like the 28 f1.8, 85 f1.8 and 100 f2). Nikon makes fast prime too, but they tends to be slightly slower (most of them are f2.8) or more expensive (Nikon 105mm f2 costs over $1000).
I'm no expert in Nikon lenses so I might be wrong.
I heartily agree. I like that Nikon can have some low initial investment prices for the DSLR bodies, but the lenses are much more expensive across the board save for the cheapie lenses.

Anyway, both the Nikon and Canon systems are good. I hope with time the Sony system will catch up. I'm definitely tempted to switch to Sony, if they bring out a cheap 35mm f2.
you seem to HAPPILY AGREE with almost anything canon does so i'll happily AGREE TO DISAGREE with you and not waste bandwidth & keystrokes Dude.

Er, I wonder if Canon had to, like, invest stuff, like, you know, money, in order to work out how to produce those fancy sensor thingies. Maybe that, like, affects the, like, price. Dude.
Seriously, if you think the parts are what you are paying for, you need to stop doing the math so quickly, and start thinking about how Canon et alia carry out the manufacturing of industry-leading technology designs using in-house research. It costs a lot of money to develop custom semiconductor devices. Canon is not a charity. They have invested heavily and they want to see profit. I hand over my money willingly for the state-of-the-art EOS cameras and lenses. When a cheaper or better system comes along I might start using that. Is anyone that dense to think that the cost of any of these cameras is a linear function of the cost of production of the parts? ROTFLMAO...Show more →

An hour ago you were saying that it is questionable whether canon charges a large amount of cash for a lesser amount of improvement. Now you are writing dissertations proclaiming of nonlinear pricing functions that are designed to do exactly what you were questioning even happens.
Make up your mind or start talking out of just one side of your mouth. Either way give us a break.

Looks real enough or they've gone to a lot of trouble to fake this.
18MP in 1.6x is sort of suck worthy IMO. You'd think they keep developing the 15MP sensor for at least another generation. I guess that's why the max ISO is now 6400 rather than 12800 and tells you this won't be a sensor that defies physics and offers soem breakthrough on noise.
It'd be a lot better if this were a 1.3x cropper, but that's highly unlikely.
Rest of the specs look good though and hopefully it's not noisier than the 50D up to ISO 1600 a least.
