It\'s from the same source that predicted the 7D, G11, S90, SX20, and SX120 last week. It turns out that the leak was spot-on on every single P&S announcement. So it\'s a safe bet that the EOS 7D rumor will prove to be real as well.
The most interesting part about this 7D announcement is its MSRP of $2699. That is identical to the 5DII MSRP. The price tells us that the 7D is not lesser camera than the 5D2, nor is it a better camera. The new camera will likely address all the complaints people had about the 5DII. Better AF, faster speed, weather sealing, smaller files. And how will they accomplish this at the same price point?
My guess: Canon will downgrade the speed demon 1.3x camera from the 1D series, into the 7D series. The spiritual successor to the 1D Mark III --- sold at the same price as a 5D Mark II. Compared to the Nikon D700, it will have HD video and a 1.3x longer reach. The longer reach is not to be underestimated --- telephoto reach is a big deal for a prosumer sports camera. The target demographic is unlikely to have 500mm and 600mm lenses readily available.
I think the 7D will mark Canon\'s return to a single 1-series entity next year. No more separation between 1D & 1Ds. Instead, that separation between \"performance\" and \"image quality\" will come in the form of the 7D & 5D series.
