I think the two most enticing lenses from Canon are the 85mm 1.2 L and the 200mm 2 IS. I believe with these two lenses alone a clever photographer could likely create a very beautiful style based on the extremely limited depth of field and the aesthetic creative possibilities that are offered by these lenses. Big aperture teles whether short or long are without a doubt sexy in every way.

Since I do field work, what is this lens like if you pack it around on camera? I can pack plenty on my special camera backpack of around 30 to 35 pounds but with the camera on a strap how does it feel?

As for carrying it on body....I use and highly recommend the Lightware Z300 bag.
An few years ago I had that bag for the 300 f/2.8. Well built and very similar to Tenba LL 300 case. However, there was one feature that turned out to be a hindrance: the flap cover wouldn't stay open on its own. I had to keep it open with one hand while trying to get the len into the bag with the other. I don't know if they still have that design today.
Either way, that experience made me switch to Tenba LL cases, and quite happy with those.
