Yes, we do have plenty of poppies here in California this year. But I've been struggling to overcome the high reflectance of the petals -- and the wind. Will give it another go.
pitiful mya55!! this is spectacular work....the poppies i've found so far have short stems and its really difficult trying to get a bottom up view of them.

The first one was just my trusty 24-105 but the other 2 were with a 70-200 with a 500D diopter attached
The Canon 500D is a screw-on diopter that is available in several different diameters (52, 72 and 77mm) allowing use of your existing lenses for closeup work.
I have used this on flowers and butterflies and quite frankly prefer it to my 100mm macro lens
